Exclamation Escaping the X-Pen!!

Now Coco learned how 2 climb/jump out of her x-pen! Everytime i put her in there she stays in for like 2 minutes and then is out running around the house and using the washroom all over! How can I keep her in the x-pen? or is it impossible now?

Hello fellow Chicagoan, I am cracking up at the thought of her climbing out and running around the house. Wait is this what I'm in store for? The breeder told me my baby girl is climbing her crate at 5 weeks. I have just De-pee'd my house from Kodak from his markings, I need a new strategy. {{{scrambling}}} out this post to go read some more housetraining tips.

Yes, I've posted about the dislocated hip before so I know how that is. Kodak jumped off the bed last year and dislocated his.

What happened with Charmer wasn't from jumping, his paw got caiught and he pulled the hip out of it's socket while he was trying to free his foot. He never yelped or cried out.

Get out of here, how did you know, was he limping? Kodak yelped when he jumped, then he limped.

When I picked him up he whimpered. Took him to my usual vet and he couldn't find anything wrong. Called my breeder and told her, she had me take him to her vet, who x-rayed him.......showed the hip dislocated.....did surgery on him that afternoon.

hehehe, i can't help but laugh. I can just see her little butt climbing out of the pen and runnig around like a lil' yorkie on speed! LoL!

Wookie used to do that allll the time. He's a climber and a jumper.. we have to use like 8 foot walls for him

Mardelin, the 1st vet missed that, holy smokes! Thank goodness your breeder referred you (from experience w/yorkies) to a vet who knew what to do. Dayum, I would've sent a copy of the 2nd diagnosis to the first vet for future reference. Just think had you taken him home from the 1st vet and just left it as is.

In all fairness to the vet, when you stood him on the table or floor the hip would slip back into the socket and it wasn't evident by manually examining. What I do fault him that he didn't treat aggressively and x-ray him at the time. Just put him on mild muscle relaxant and told me if it persisted he'd sedate him and x-ray him.

Now mind you, the 2nd vet didn't sedate him to x-ray him. My breeder went with me and we explained what was happening, he immediately took Charmer to the back x-rayed him, brought him back within 5 minutes. Put the pics up on the light and explained what was wrong, what needed to be done and how he was going to do it.....I looked at him and said ok, let's do it......he responded with he'll be on the table at 2 this afternoon, I'll call you when he's out of surgery and you can pick him up before noon tomorrow. Of course we did physical therapy, alot of hydro-water work. But, he was back to normal within 6 weeks.

The 2nd diagnosis was sent to him, since I still use him for minor things. He's 3 blocks from home, where my regular Vet is 26 miles away in Dallas.

My dogs are the world to me and when I'm not satisfied with what I'm getting I'm like a mother lion with her cubs.
