Default shredding her pee pad

our yorkie is just about 3 months, and she has a bad habit of shredding her pee pad. any tips? if she keeps doing it, she gets crated, but we'd like to pen her as long as possible over night, and so forth.

it's really messy when she does it and i suspect she's eating the insides, which can't be good.

how can I stop her from shredding it?

Might want to go to the washable pee pads. I swore I wouldn't use them, but, after having to remove shredded pee pads from puppy nostrals a couple of times I decided to give them a try. Best investment I every made Oh by the way this behavior is normal for yorkie or any puppy, some just do it more than others......

They're washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer.....they last through hundreds of washings.

my little pup snickers used to do that also! but i taped the outsides so that the pads would stay down on the floor so he wouldnt be able to shred the pads. and IT WORKS! maybe u should try that, you never know.

Try getting a pee pad holder like this: http://www.amazon.com/Iris-301561-Pr.../dp/B0006ABVGG It keeps the pad clamped in place making it much more difficult to get a hold of them.

I used duct tape till Venus got used to her pads and quit trying to play with them. It worked and later I quit putting tape on them, and she never bothered them except to pee.

Poptart(maltese) use to shred pee pads all the time, he loved doing it, it was his favorite activity. I tried taping it down, got a pee pad holder and neither worked. He just grabbed the middle of it and chewed that part up. I finally got tired of picking up pieces of shredded pee pad so I bought the reusable/washable ones. It was the best investment I made. He can't chew up these pads, they are made of a cloth material like a quilt would be. And they have saved me alot of money. I use to spend $60 a month a disposable pee pads and now I get to save all that money because I have the washable ones. I really love them, they work great. I just stick in the washer when they are dirty, add detergent and dry them and they come out looking brand new everytime!! I highly recommend them!!!

You might want to try a different brand. I like the ones from Target best - mine use those most consistently. I have some others that they will shred if given half a chance. The washable ones sound great but I wonder how they would know the difference between them and say a throw rug?

That was the one thing I was worried about. I thought if I got the washable ones that the dogs would be confused and wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the pad and a rug or blanket. Everyone told me it would work out alright so I ordered them. And they never once got confused, they knew from the moment I put the pad down that that is where they were suppose to go. They never once confused the pad with a rug or blanket. It suprised me but everyone else I have talked to had the same results with no problems.

Where does everyone buy their reusable ones? Is there one brand that's better than another?

I get mine at www.valethics.com
They have great prices and the pads are great. I have washed them many many times and each time they come out looking new. They work really great and the price is right!!

i just placed a piddlepads.com order. the lady was nice, she let me change my order over the phone, and told me if i have any problems to call her. so she's real easy to work with.
it's also same day shipping so i'm pretty excited to get it. i'm so sick of cleaning shredded puppy pads. I tried everything even stapling them to a board, she still tore it all apart.

lets see how this works. i'll keep everyone interested, posted.

thanks for the tip
