Carpet cleaner parked in living room - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Yea, that carpet cleaner is still parked in the living room. I'm thinking about getting a friend of mine to rig up a light, and put a lamp shade on it, and have a dual duty. Least I can get more than one use from it,

Any other suggestions?

Most of the time, she uses the potty pads, but seems like at least once a day, its nowhere near a pad.

Thats when we get back in the kitchen, and put the plywood back over the door again. She's always been 100% in the kitchen.

And poo, omg....I don't want to go there, but least its easy to clean up.

I don't have to worry about cleaning carpet for christmas, cause I keep it clean all the time! As much as I clean it, water should be coming out clear!

At night she sleeps with us, and gets up to go on her potty pad in the bedroom at night.

I gave up on the rugs, they all put away for now. Last time I pulled one out, she did great, till I spilled a tad of taco sauce on it. Then she chewed a hole in it! Geez, and I was afraid of her peeing on it

She'll be 6 months Dec 11th.

I keep hoping that I can go a full week without having to use the carpet cleaner. Sometimes we make it a day or 2....then out of the blue, pee spot

Just keep feeling that carpet cleaner will spend a full year parked in my living room. Someone please give me hope!

Trainers say that rather than regular carpet cleaners, you need to use a product from the pet stores specifically for cleaning up accidents. Apparently they contain special enzymes that destroy the odor (to the extent that even dogs can't smell it). As long as your pup can smell pee on the carpet, that signals to him this is an okay place to pee.

Personally, if mine couldn't be trusted on the carpet, I'd keep him only in the areas that have tile or linoleum. But, that's a matter of personal preference!

Loki had the same kind of pattern at 6 months. Most of the time he'd ask to go out, then out of nowhere BAM he'd pee on the floor. I think his bladder just wasn't ready. He also preferred the carpet and our carpet cleaner got a workout too. (We used the resolve pet stuff after soaking it with Simple Solution) We can't really gate off the kitchen in our house, but we crate trained and otherwise kept an eye on him at all times. When he peed on the carpet we'd grab him and take him outside. Finally around 10 months he stopped having accidents on the carpet and only had a few by the door on the tile if we didn't hear him to let him out. We put the bells up when he was about a year old and then he pretty much stopped having accidents since we could always hear him ringing them. He'd pee by the door maybe once a month for a while, then once every 2 months and now he hasn't had an accident in like 6 months. He just turned 2, and he also has bladder issues that he's now on medication for and he is fantastic about asking to go outside and waiting on the door mat until someone lets him out.

Does that give you any hope?

I feel your pain. Scout just turned 6 months today and she left me a poop surprise under the xmas tree.

If we take her to daycare then she may go a couple of days with no accidents but otherwise there's 1 accident every day or two.

Hang in there! Hopefully our puppies will learn soon.

Your post is giving me hope -- My little one goes whenever I take him out but then may go again 5 minutes after he comes back in. He goes so often! I don't want to be harsh with him yet -- he is not quite 4 months old. But, I hope the carpets can hold out!

OK, here's your mantra for the next few months:

"There IS hope....There IS HOPE!"

We've ALL been there, and it does seem like your primary function in life is to find and clean up puppy poo/pee. Be consistant with the training, and remember - they don't even connect the act with the urge until around 6 months (so I've read from breeders, here) soooooooo.........you're on the Home Stretch! Don't forget the PRAISE, when successful!!
