the story starts like this...this is not the first time I am posting about Siu Pao's sleeping routine. He wakes up at 3.30am at night and then 6.30am and then back to sleep at about 9am?My hubby is making a big deal out of it because Siu Pao sleeps next to my side of bed in his own crate. So he scratches the door to be let out and hubby being a light sleeper says it wakes him up. He asked me to ignore him but I am always thinking "What if he wants to pee"? So I really don't know what to do next...hubby also suggest put him in crate and put him out of the room, in the kitchen just outside of our room and that way it helps him to not be glued to me all the time and be a little independant. Please let me know what your opinions are? I just want things to be better for hubby's sleep *sigh*

You might consider buying hubby some ear plugs for a stocking stuffer? How old is your yorkie? Gracie started sleeping through the night at about 4 1/2 months. She still occasionally needs to get up during the night, but it is only if she had too much water before bed or if she has diarrhea.

how old is he?? the puppy.. not your husband

layla is 8 months.. STILL gets up once and a while at 3:30 am to pee... when you bring him outside.. is he peeing?? both times?? if this is the case.. you better tell your husband he is just a puppy.. and can't hold it... he can clean up the mess if he wants

Yorkies have such small bladders which is why they are usually a little harder to train... but you are lucky he is at least letting you know he needs to go out! if he is NOT peeing when you bring him out... and just waking you up.. then... well... i dunno.. i used to tell layla in a stern voice... no... and she would go back to bed... she just gave up... but if that won't work.. you might need to relocate him for a few nights until he gets the picture that you arne't getting up just because he wants to. good luck.. hopefully someone else will have other ideas too!

Someone suggested I take his water away at 8.30pm and earlier if need be. Hubby will be mad if I explain to him that he has to wait for a few more months before Siu Pao sleeps all through the night hence I don't know how to tell him

I don't know. I feel like I am torn in between when it comes to the both of them.

Does anyone else have the same problem? He tried ear plugs...doesn't work.

the important question is.... is he peeing when you bring him out... every time? layla gets water taken away at 7 pm..

Not every time! Hence I am not able to tell when he needs to pee and when he does not need to pee. Do you feed Layla snack after you take her water away at 7pm? I sometimes feed him some snack at 9-10pm when he seems hungry and right after, he wants his water because he is real thirsty. I feed him his dinner at 6pm.

well when layla was little... like he is.. i just took it away.. that was it.. she learned she had to eat ealier.. now she is slepeing through.. well mostly.. anways.. so she has free access to it... it's just like having a baby.. people make fun of me when i say it but it's true... you just gotta get up.. eventuall you will have a night where he doens't wake up... i STILL get up at 3:30 every morning because that is when she is usually up.. but now she sleeps through.. the day will come.. i promise

Sometimes Loki still needs to go out in the middle of the night. We take turns. That's just how it is. Can your hubby wake you up to let him out? I would say if he is settling after you take him out then you should take him out to pee. If he is just up because he is not tired, then you need to keep him up later and wear him out throughout the day. We used to not let Loki nap after 7pm even if it meant a very long game of fetch and keeping him entertained. Now he can sleep all day and all night, with breaks to eat and drink and pee.

I take Gracie's water away at 7 PM and we don't go to bed until she pees after 8:00 pm.

I had a real hard time hearing when Venus wanted to go out in the middle of the night when her crate was in the kitchen. Thats why I moved her crate to my room. Hard to train them when you can't hear them.

When I put pet steps up, and put a pee pad in my bedroom, and let her sleep with me, she quit waking me every night to go pee. Now we both sleep through the night. She won't be 6 months till Dec 11th, if that helps any.

Sawyer is 5 months now, and he still gets up to go in the middle of the night. I am so proud when he goes right away on his pee pads, that I don't mind at all. my husband is not too wild about it though, but when I offer to stay in the other room on the couch with my baby so we don't bother him, he seems to adjust just fine. I love my husband, but he is an adult, and sawyer is my baby, and his needs have to come first until he is a little older. There is nothing like a warm puppy to cuddle with when you are stressed, and even my husband can't stay too upset when he gets one of those super sawyer Kisses. Sherry

I hope my hubby is like yours but sleep is quite important when he work long hours. That as a wife, I can understand. Last night, we tried for the first time to leave his crate just outside our room and leave our room door open so he can come in and out if he wants.He can also go pee pee in his litter box when he wants and not having to wake me up to do it. We will keep the room door open for a week and then try closing the door so that hubby can sleep better.

Sorry if I spoke too casually. A husbands sleep is very important, and your idea of leaving the crate door open sounds like a good one, hope it helps. I'm sure it won't be long til sleeping all night will seem as good to our fur babies as it is to us.

Bailey is such a good girl.....we go to bed at about 11pm (and she pees just before going into her crate) and she doesnt wake me until 6am.

The only time she EVER cries in her crate is if she needs to pee or poop (which is sometimes when I first bring her upstairs...never during the night). I learned this the hard way!!!
