I have 3 precious babies and I don't think they will ever be trained I was just wondering if anyone really has a yorkie that is potty trained?

Yes I would say mine are trained, but I still don't trust them not to make a mistake. Although they haven't had one in over a month.

How old are your guys and what methods have you used? Is a doggie door an option?

My Chewie is 1 year old and is potty trained. At least here at home he is. I don't know if I take him somewhere else if he will have an accident because he will smell the other dogs? I have a doggy door and he comes and goes at will. It took a lot of training on my part tho.

Abbie will be one year old the 1st of December, and I can say "yes", she is trained to paper. Many people use the puppy pads; but we got started with newspaper and just never switched. Now, I'm afraid to throw anything new at her! LOL Outside training, is of course, the best; but, I'm afraid to let her out alone. Too much for her to get in to in my back yard, and we do have hawks and eagles about.

I encourage you to please, please, please be patient and CONSISTENT. As many here will confirm: training takes patience, Patience, and PATIENCE. Then, when you have no more patience.....it requires even more. But, it WILL happen! From what I've read, pups don't even recognize the urge until they are around 6months.

What method are you using? Remember that praise for success is very important! We still acknowledge when Abbie goes in the right spot. "Good Girl, Abbie! You pottied on the paper!" (hugs and kisses). She hasn't had an accident in several months. But, when she did, it was both pitiful and hilarious. She would crate herself!

I can safely say she's trained, as we took her with us to a very nice B & B this past week, put paper down in the bathroom, showed her where it was and told her "go potty, here"; and she went there every time! <proud>

Many of us thought it would never happen. Just hang in there.

Oliver just turned 1 and it 100% litter box trained. He lives in 3 different environments throughout the year (my apartment at school, my mom's house on some weekends and my BF house during the summer) as long as I show him his litter box he is A-OK!
It took some training, but I'm super proud of him~ I couldn't ask for a more worry-free pup!
And YES I'M BRAGGING~ haha my hard work in training padi off

Mine isn't but we're still working on it. My late Yorkie was potty trained but still had accidents sometimes. I have a Japanese Chin past two years old and he's finally getting it. Don't give up!

Chewy is trained. he has been since 4 months. (HE is 7 months now) I take him out every two hours when I;m home. he never goes in his crate.

I use a play plastic yard from Toys R us... There is no bottom. It is out side with rooks in it ( other wise he would dig in the dirt)

If you decide to try this bring some paper towle with their waste on it to show them what the pen is for, never leave them alone!

Chewy got the hang of this right away! My friend told me it would be the best money I could spend and she was really right. Because it is enclosed he knows it's potty time. He goes with in 2 min and we are back inside!

When chewy would start to pee or poo I would clap and say loudly OOOHHH NOOOOOO and he would stop in his tracks, then I ran him out side. He figured it out pretty quick!

PS... My hubby built a roof over chewy's potty so we don't have to worry about rain or snow!

Yes, Tink has been trustworthy since she was a little older than a year. That's when I started letting her have free run of the house. I can't remember the last time there was an accident, it's been a very long time. She'll be 2 in january.

All three of mine are 100% potty trained in their own way. Believe me, I have had my share of accidents! The carpet cleaner seemed to be in constant use. I honestly thought they would NEVER get the hang of house training until I had a Petsmart Trainer explain that it could be my not paying attention to their individual signs. And, she was SO right! After taking a look at each one of my furbabies individual potty habits I found that I have one that does not like to get her paws wet from the grass and prefers pee pads - So, we have one of our bathrooms fixed just for her. She goes at her will - Even in the middle of the night as necessary. I have another that is outside trained 100%. So, we installed a doggie door! Works like a charm for him. And, our last furbaby is a combination of pee pad and outside trained. She will go where ever it is convenient for her when the need arises. She prefers outside during the daylight hours and pee pad at night. So, don't give up...It can be done! I speak from experience. GOOD LUCK!!!

Venus is 5 months old, and is going on pee pads, and outside a lot. She still makes mistakes now and then, so I don't trust her for free run of the house yet.

I learned a lot by going through every post on potty training in this section! Learned more than I ever knew when I got my 5 year old!

It takes a lot of patience and watching very closely at the "sniffing, and circling". That seems to be the cue to "I gotta go now"!

And just when I through that she was trained, and added the living room, oh man. Everytime I added a room, it was like training all over again!

She now does her poo outside. But then again, I'm home all day, and let them out every hour or 2.

I'm still afraid I'll jinx myself if I put the carpet cleaner back up!

Joey has been housebroken since he was 4 1/2 months. And he rings a bell to let me know when he has to go out. Man, I love that Dog!!!

Loki is completely potty trained. He rings a bell when he needs to go outside and we crate him when we are not home. He goes with us to other people's houses and does just fine - no bells but he goes to the door and scratches or cries. We don't have a fence so he goes outside on a leash. He's 2 this week, and he's been reliable since he was about 10-12 months. I can't remember the last time he had an accident.

Poor Loki has some bladder issues and incontinence that is being controlled with meds. We have to regulate his water because if I put a whole bowl in front of him he would drink the entire thing. (I know puppies pee a lot, but he was having accidents every 5 minutes at 4 months old and it was NOT marking.) We ruled out any medical cause for the water thing but he still drinks twice as much as he should. I told him a long time ago he could have as much water as he wanted as long as he peed outside!! So far he has kept up his end of the deal so I try to keep mine
