Angry She is going to get me evicted!

I have had Scout for over 2 months (she is 5.5 months now) and she is SOOO bad!

She STILL goes to the bathroom every 1-2X every hour which is such a pain because I have to walk her down 3 flights of stairs.

She STILL has pee accidents in the house RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.

She has just decided in the last week that it's ok to POOP in the house!

And NOW, she has started barking and yelping like crazy when we are gone (but she's ok when we leave because I don't hear her). Our landlord said all of our neighbors in the building have complained. We never had complaints before last week and so she must have just started.

HELP!! What should I do?

Do you leave noise inside for her when you're gone? Like a TV or radio? I leave a radio on for Sadie so she doesn't hear other noises.

Try Kongs for when you leave. Is she confined to a crate? A covered crate might make her feel more secure. The crate will also help with accidents in the house.

As far as peeing every hour or so, Loki still does that and he's almost 2. He sleeps all day and goes out maybe twice but then in the evening when he's active and drinking water he has to go out at least once an hour sometimes twice. We don't have a fence so I have to let him out a leash (thank goodness for flexi) and it's a pain to stand at the freezing cold door for 3 minutes while he sniffs around, but it's better than cleaning up a mess!

Do you have a balcony? Can you get some sod and throw it out there?

Try taking her for a nice walk before you leave for the day. Do you crate train? That teaches her to hold her urine and poo for small periods of time.

well first of all did you happen to do any research about having a puppy in a apt? Im not picking on you but the statement you made..

She STILL goes to the bathroom every 1-2X every hour which is such a pain because I have to walk her down 3 flights of stairs.

and this one.. she is SOOO bad! No she isn't Bad she is learning.. and it will take some time on your part for her to get it! my sami has never stoped pooing & peeing in the house and I have tried everything!! and this is not ok
but it's part of having a pet... I do think Sadie's Mom Idea on keeping a tv or radio on may help her, although it naver did with sami : I am still having this
problem today and he will be two years old christmas...

So hang in there and good luck!

she is still very young. try keeping her confined when you are not able to hold her and you might want to try training to a pee pad. Mine did great with them.

As for the barking, try wearing her out before you leave. and you also might want to consider calling a professional. that's a tough problem.

I had a Boston Terrier in an apartment before and it was never a problem.

Yes, I am crate training her but leave her in an xpen when I am gone for more than 4 hours. She is great about holding it or using her pee pads when I am not home. The problem is when I AM home...

The reason I believe she is bad is because she will hold it up to 9 hours when we are gone but if we are at home she likes to potty in the house, a lot of times right in front of us!

Thanks for the suggestion - I will try giving her a kong and using music. I am also going to set up a webcam to monitor her barking since I'm surprised my neighbors didn't talk to me first.

Has anyone used the little machines that emit high-pitched noises when they bark? I am looking into one of those too...

I forgot to mention that I don't have a balcony.

For those of you who pee pad train their dogs - how do they do when they are at other people's houses? My concern is that they'll think it's ok to pee indoors wherever they go.

You are using pads when you leave, but then expect her to go outside when you are home? That doesn't make sense to a dog. She isn't bad - she is confused. It's either OK to pee on the floor or it's not. We left Loki in his crate when he was a puppy but we made sure not to be gone longer than he could hold it - even if that was 30 mins. Even now, he is capable of staying alone in his crate for 5 or 6 hours but we try to make sure someone is home with him, or we take him with. He goes to daycare if my husband is not able to let him out during the day. He has bladder issues but after a lot of hard work we were still able to 100% housetrain him - it just took a while and a lot of effort on our part. If Loki rings his bells - one of us lets him out. It doesn't matter if it's 3am and snowing. We rarely argue over who's "turn" it is because ignoring him will mean arguing over who gets to clean up the mess - so luckily it doesn't come to that.

Having a puppy is A LOT of work. Yes they pee every 30 minutes. Some of them develop iron bladders and can go all day. Others, like Loki, will probably never be able to hold it 8 hours.

Try bells so she can let you know when she needs to go out. I would still expect between 1 accident a day to 1 accident a week for a 5 month old.

When you are gone I bet she is sleeping. I bet you can hold it 9 hours while you sleep - but not 9 hours while you are at work. At least I can't. Loki and I both have bladder issues though so I guess I can sympathize with him when he has to pee at 3am.

She has her crate in a pen, and outside of the pen she has a pad. There are no pads around the house otherwise. Should I just remove her pad? She uses her bells about 75% of the time to let me know when she needs to pee, less for poo.

She goes to daycare usually twice a week and the dog park 2-3 times per week to help her burn off her puppy energy. I think the dog whisperer said that a 45 min power walk daily helps, so I will try that as well.

The barking is definitely the more immediate issue. My neighbors on both sides have small dogs too, and once she starts barking, usually all three go at it...

I'd try the kong for the barking, and leave a the TV on animal plant. Or at least a radio going.

Also when your home, need to confine to a smaller area, and make sure there is a pee pad in that area. And try to make sure its an area without carpet. Never let them have full reign of the house till after they've had it down pat...for a long time. Then add another area to the one they're used to. Don't add another area till they have both of those areas down pat, no mistakes. This takes a while.

Might want to keep a leash on your pup, and tie it around your wasit, that way you can see when they start to sniff or circle....they need to go, RIGHT NOW. Get to the potty pad. When they get through pottying in the right place, always praise a lot and give a small treat.

If I lived up 3 flights of stairs.....don't think I'd got a dog! Thats a lot of work. But then again, I may be a lot older than you, and not fond of climbing stairs.

Haha. That is a great idea! We're planning on getting a house next year so I'll try to convince my husband.
