Default Puppy pads

We've been trying to train Tila since day one (3 months)
but I knew she couldn't learn until later
so we got serious about it at 5 months

Now at 10 (almost 11) months she's still not potty trained!
for a long time we trained her to go on paper
and she sort of did it,
just once in a while
so Troie told us to get puppy pads and we did
and we got the little puppy pad tray so they can't tear them up?
(although Tila finds this amusing since she can dig it out ha ha)

she still isn't doing any better
I'm home all the time
so I usually catch her in the act, I tell her no and I show her the puppy pad

this isn't working.

are there special puppy pads that attract them to it?

help?!

You have to be "very serious" about potty training from day 1, not putting it off cause you "think they can't learn that young". They do learn young, only problem is...their bladder is small, and they can't hold it long when young. But they do catch on fast!

Venus is 4 months, and I've had her since 10 weeks. She's been pad trained in the kitchen since day 4. Day 1 she wanted to lay on them, day 2 tear them up...well you know how that goes.

I had to tape mine to the floor, then she finally got it after about the 4th day. Now with poop, she sometimes misses, as when she goes in the "circles", I think she winds up hanging butt off the pee pad.

You need to work with yours in a very small area, like an x-pen. Let the dog have 1 end for bedding (or crate), food, water. Put pee pad at the other end. At night, place pup in a "crate" beside your bed, so you can hear them whine, when they want to go out. As soon as they start to whine, take them either outside, or to the x-pen so they can potty. When they are finished, put them back in the crate.

I'd make sure I used an x-pen at least a week or more after accidents stop, then work with a slightly larger area.

They can learn young, really can! But you have to be very persistant! And you have to watch them almost every minute.

When they do potty where you want them to go, praise, praise, praise and give a treat!

Now, Venus will "potty for a treat" outside.

I've seen dogs much older than yours, start potty training, and being successful.

There is also something you can buy that you spray on the pads, to make them wanna go on it too.

I think its called "Simple Solutions" spray. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on the name.

I think you get it at Petsmart.

I never used it, I just mopped a lot, and kept her in the kitchen till she "got it" well with the pads.

Right now, she's 18 weeks, and been going on the pads a good while. And right now, letting her have free roam of the living room (carpeted) along with the kitchen. Oh btw....I just cleaned living room carpet today!

When we trained Pete we closed off the living room with a baby gate so we could watch him closely, we also put the pee pad in the living room with us during this time. Each time we saw him going on the pad we'd get loudly excited and give him treats, it wasnt long before he was fake peeing just to get treats haha. It did take until he was about 8months to have no accidents, but now at 1.5yrs he has free run of the house and a potty pad in the bathroom. Just stick to it and it will get better.
