Default jumping on people

Hi all......I'm looking for some advice on how to begin training my 17 week old Cooper how to not jump on people. This is my first Yorkie....and first dog as an adult for that matter so I am new to the training thing and could use any advice on ways to teach him to stay down. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

All you really need to do is turn your back, avoid eye contact and ignore puppy for a few seconds every single time he jumps up. Jumping puppy = invisible puppy. As soon as he calmly has "four on the floor", he is not only visible but the most wonderful puppy in the world!

For this to be effective, you have to be consistent and everyone in the household has to participate. It won't take puppy long to learn that to get what he wants (your attention), he has to stay on the floor.

Good luck!

If I may add to the "Invisible Puppy" theory, which I totally agree with, have your friends/neighbors visit and when the puppy jumps on them, have them ignore him/her until all fours are on the ground. Training the dog not to jump is even more important with non-familiar people. It won't take a minute of their time, but the lesson will last a lifetime for your pup. Best of luck to you.

Great idea about the non-household people helping out....luckily we have lots of company, all of which are good friends and would be happy to help us out. Thanks again for the advice......
