Default Maddie is trained to outside but when in rains.....

Maddie is trained to potty outside and does a great job, but when it rains she will just sit on the porch under a little table and then sometimes comes back inside and potties. I was wondering.....since winter is coming how could i pee pad train her along with pottied outside. Would this just confuse her. She is doing so good and I dont want to mess her up. Also if she was pee pad trained then she could go to work with me 3 days a week. Just your thoughts and help please. Thanks

Tiger and Annika are both trained to go outdoors and indoors . . . . Annika will pee and poop outside if she needed to and she does sometimes on our walks after being in a crate for a few hours. Same with Tiger. However, when in the house, they are confined basically to the laundry room unless I let them roam free. Annika will seek out the pad whereever she is. Tiger, I still have my doubts so he wears a band. But if in the laundry room, he tries to get it to the pad but always misses which is really starting to frustrate me. How to tansition Maddie to go use a pad I haven't a clue. But transitioning from pad to outdoor sure was easy for me . . . . as I just made sure it was really time for them to go.

I hate being outside especially now that it gets dark so early. My surroundings are very woodsy so it sure does scare the heck out of me so I just NOT take them out in the early mornings and evenings, so I rely on pads all the time. The only time I take them outdoors is during lunch and the ground MUST be dry as I hate for them to get dirty

We stopped that by taking Loki out on a leash and now budging until he went. (Yes you get a little wet but it's only for a few times.) He figured out he has to pee outside even when it's raining. Now he is so fast he doesn't even get wet. He even figured out how to pee in the grass with 2 feet on the sidewalk, one paw lifted and only one foot in the grass - crazy dog. I send Loki outside all year around....... put a coat on him and he's good to play in the snow....

I realize this is an old thread, but my puppies are wimps when it comes to the rain as well. Don't want to get wet! I have a fenced in area on bricks that they potty in, but I'm considering building a tarp over it. Because currently, I have to hold an umbrella over them, in order for them to go. Stop laughing! So there I am at 1am and 5am in the dark and rainy night, holding an umbrella over 2 wimpy pups, saying "go potty..." while all the while, I am not dry in the least.
Argh! Housebreaking!

I'm glad you posted. I had the same concern. I was thinking of getting an easy-up and putting it in my back yard. They should be on sale this time of year. I'm pretty sure you can adjust the height so it would be lower to the ground ...

I bet you could buy a one or two man pup tent (no pun intended) and cut the bottom out and it would be cheaper and it's something you could buy at your local Wal Mart or Sporting Goods store. I'm wanting to teach mine to go out once we have the fence put up and a tent or cover would be great!!!

For my late yorkie, I always had to shovel a path through the snow for her.

Ollie and Chachi are both peepad and outdoor trained. They are getting better about dashing out in the rain and going, but they have the option of the pee pad. They have a doggie door, so the choice is entirely theirs.

I think to transistion her to the pee pad you will probably have to confine her in a small area, where she has no choice.

How old is she?
Does she ask to go out?

I put my pee pad in a shallow under the bed storage box. That solved the problem of missing the pad.
