Wink Professional Training

Have you taken you baby to a training class? If so, did you see a difference?

TIA

Oh yes!!! Kona went through the PetSmart training classes. She listens really well now. It was great opportunity to have specific training time. I actually signed Bernie up for the same classes. I tried teaching him the stuff the same evenings as my class with Kona, but I really think he needs some individual time...plus with the PetSmart classes you can sign up again (for free) for the same class if you feel your pup needs it.

I think obedience classes are a must for a number of reasons. 1, socialization; 2, basic skills such as sit, stay, come, walk on a loose leash ... are important for the safety of any dog; 3, Together, you learn a new language that helps you communicate better and brings you closer.

Gracie graduated from Puppy Pre-school this last Friday night. The off-leash play time was really great for her, and the instruction was great for me. We start Kindergarten on 11/4 where she will learn all of the basic commands, and continue her socialization off leash. After this next class, Gracie will be spayed and then we will continue on to advanced obedience, where she will learn not to run off when off leash, etc. In my opinion, this is the best money I could have spent on Gracie. Plus, my instructors are always available by phone or email to help with special problems that come up.

We took Emma to Petco classes and they were a JOKE. I would never recommend those classes to anyone!

Aside from being poorly run, unorganized, and TOO lenient, they were expensive for what we got out of them! She knew all the tricks before we took her to classes-started classes at 14 weeks. She improved on leash walking-but we think that was just experience and age of being on the leash. Her improvements were AFTER the classes were over, and we walked her twice each day. It was good for her socialization, but I wonder if we could have gotten that going to doggie daycare or a dog park. The big dogs in the class were all over the place, and their owners didn't understand or didn't care that their 35 pound "puppies" could seriously injure one of the toy breed puppies in the class. They played SO rough, and NO one said or did anything about it!

I have heard good things about the rescue league classes or the real "training" classes. We might go to something like this later on.

I forgot to mention that at the training where Gracie went, they separate the big dogs from the little ones for play time. I would definitely make that a criteria for selecting a professional trainer.

We have taken lots of classes through a private trainer. Classes were small and the trainer has a MS in animal behavior. Loki would be a monster without training.
