Default My 5month baby cries and barkes for hours

I need help!!!!

My girlfriend and I have had our puppie for 3 months now and everytime we leave in the morning to go to work he cries and barks. We live in a condo and the neighbors are complaining that he cries and barks for hours. He is a good little boy, he pees and goes potty outside now. So we let him roam around the whole house (we leave the bedroom doors closed though). He has the whole house to himself but yet he is still not happy. The only thing that we are having issues with is him crying for us.

What can we do to make him stop crying? We are with him all day during the weekend, but Monday thru Friday we are at work from 8-630pm...we do go home for lunch everyday though. The thing is that when we go home for lunch he is excited to see us and when we have to come back to work he starts crying all over again.

I want to know what we can do to make him stop crying for us.........

Any advise will be highly appreciated

The only advice I can give is little... I got a Kong for Trixie when I had to leave her by herself for longer periods of time. And I'd stuff it full with her favorite treats. It would take her a long time to get it out, so she'd stay busy for a while. Plus, she'd actually look forward to me leaving because she'd get treats! Just something little you can try...

I hope your baby will get over the seperation anxiety quickly!

Do you live in Costa Mesa, CA? If you do there is a place called Doggie Spaw, in Tustin. They are a doggie day care. It is very nice and clean. They take small dogs only. Lucy went there for a few weeks just to get her around other small dogs. But most dogs belong to working parents and go there every day.

Star crying 5 month old

I think the Kong suggestion filled with treats or peanut butter is a good idea.
Also perhaps a real raw bone would keep him busier than a stuffed toy.
When I go out for awhile I turn on soft classical music in the background.
Also...a good long walk in thye morning before youleave is what the dog whisperer would (and any trainer) would recommend. So he is exercised and relaxed when you leave...noy alll up and excited to play because it is early morning.
If you can afford a second pup I bet that would be nice for both of them.
And a second pup while this one is still youmg might be good timing.
I wouldn't worry about the lonely pup idea as a reason to not add a little friend for him. Then he wouldn't be lonely and neither would the new pup.

The playmate is a good idea, but there are herbal products made for anxiety like Rescue Remedy. It is available at most health food stores for humans, but I don't know if it is a different formulation, but it is the same name. Drs. Foster & Smith sell it for animals. They sell several calming herbal preparations, some disguised as treats. If the anxiety is very severe and the herbal remedies don't help you may want to talk to your vet about prescribing clomaprazine (? something like that).

I only leave mine for about an hour. what i do is wear them out by playing for a while and make sure they go potty before I leave. I also sit down with them for about 15 minutes so they are nice and sleepy and already laying down. I have actually gone around the block and returned to peek in the window to see what they are doing and ............still sleeping. oh and I leave the tv on for them too.

Have you tried leaving a shirt on the floor that one of you had been wearing? Someone suggested that to me, so right now, I'm wearing an old tee shirt, that I will give her later today.

Also if your considering getting a playmate, its a really good idea.

I just got Venus a few weeks ago. She's now a little over 12 weeks old. I've had Adonis for 5 years.

I wished I'd got a playmate for Adonis a long time back now! After the first few days, these 2 started playing, and having a blast together, although one is 5 and one just 3 months! Adonis has really taken up with her quite well!

Thing was, when I got Adonis, I also had a cat, and had to take my neighbors dog in, cause he was no longer able to take care of himself, much less his dog of 17 years.

I think with you gone so much, a playmate would really be a great thing for the dog. With someone to play with all day, it would certainly help pass time for them. And probably lot cheaper than daycare in the long run.

Good luck in which ever thing you decide to do!

Sadie is rarely left alone..but, when I had to leave her alone I would leave animal planet on for her(you could actually leave any program on...just for the noise) I did get another Yorkie. Lillie is 13 weeks old now. I kept her blocked in the kitchen where I thought she would be comfortable. I had her pee pee pad, food, water toys and her bed..She would whine and cry so loud that it sounded like someone was trying to rip her legs off! I used a babies playpen for Sadie when I first got her...Soooo I thought why not try Lillie in it. IT WORKED! I put food, water, bed toys and pee pad in it. I think maybe she feels better in the smaller place...dogs used to live in dens so I feel the smaller the area the better...Maybe he has too much room to roam and he is frightened~

Getting another dog -- wouldn't be so cool - if it doesn't work.

You'd have to come up with the $$$ to get a second dog - then go through all the puppyshots - spaying or neutering etc. - all the puppy training and housebreaking - and then what if you end up with two dogs that bark when you're gone - and not just one.

Sometimes if one dog is a barker - the other one will join right in....not good!

***** I really wish I knew what to tell you to do. I've been real lucky. For some reason - none of my three dogs are barkers. And they've never cried when I've left home. (Maybe they were glad to get rid of me!!)

Best of luck - I can certainly understand your problem.
