Default Helppppppppp My baby had potty training issues

Hi there,

I love my my yorkie babies, but we are starting to have potty issues. We take hannah for walks and she insists on going out. But, when we get back she goes potty in the house. We tried the crate. Its hard because she screams.

Now we have a 3 month old who likes to lay on his mat, and she decided she was going to pee on it. My son will be crawling soon and I need to curb this habit. My husband is on the verge of sending her out the door because she is very stubborn. My oldest yorkie had the same issue, and we sent him for potty training. But, we do not have the money now that the baby is here to do that same thing. Any suggestions?

my babie has the same problem, i take her out, she wants to play instead of potty, then when i bring her in, thats when she uses the bathroom, and i dont understand.

i leave her in the bathroom while i am at work, and she doesn't use the bathroom at all while im gone, which i know cant be good, i lay out newspaper, and she tears it up, and im not going to spend money on pee pads when i know she will tear those up also, here lately she has found a way to break out of the bathroom, and knock the baby gate down, and has run of the house while i am away. I enrolled her in puppy training classes at petsmart hoping to help her out with her bad biting and potty habits.

Good luck to your babie, i know its tough, my mom gets so mad at me when she pee pees on the floor, and i get upset, but i dont get on to her, or shove her face in it. i just clean it up and take her outside so she will learn thats where she needs to potty. hopefully both of our's will be potty trained soon enough!

Just make sure you are taking her outside as soon as she wakes up, eats, finishes playing, before you go to bed, and atleast once during the night, thats all you can do untill she learns. Sometimes you will have to watch her outside for 15-20 minutes untill she learns thats where potty is, and she can go out, do her stuff and come back in!

Whenever I take Gracie out I make sure she that I don't play with her...I tell her sternly a couple of times "Go Potty" and when she tries to chew on my shoes or play with me I tell her "no, go potty" it seems to have worked really well for me because she immediatley goes potty when we go outside...(have you tried potty pads?? you could put them somewhere where your son could not get to them??)

Mia is now 9 mo. She was REALLY good for a while, then the "terrible twos" hit and we would go out, she would run off, not potty, potty in the house, etc. After about 3 mo of that and nearly going nuts, at 9 mo she is MUCH BETTER. She listens and responds. MOST of the time she makes it outside as long as we pay attention to her. There is hope - I think!

I have tried the wee wee pads. As a matter of fact my little boy would pee on them but not poop. lol Hannah refuses to use them and now that winston sees this he wont either.

I dont know, its hard. The crate training and screaming. I recently found out that my husband would take them out and not wait for her to go. If she didn't go by the time they got back he would come in anyway. So then she would go in the house. So I am going to try staying outside until she goes, so she learns. And Im going to try using a treat to reward outside after she goes.

thank all of you for your advice so far, Im going to use bits and pieces of what your suggested. Glad to see im not alone. =0)

I am not an expert by any means but I have a few suggestions that might help.

My friend, Dante', a member here, had a great thing going at her house to train her yorkies. She has a failry small xpen set up outside her back door in the grass. She takes the dogs out there after they wake up, after they eat and after they play, and she tells them to "hurry up". She doesn't use "go potty" because if you are out with somewhere that might be offensive to others. If they don't go potty she walks away until they do.

It was incredible but it doesn't take long before they are trying to squeeze everything they have in there out in order to get out of the pen and "go play". The pen is too small to play in so they want out as soon as possible.

I am going to do the same thing at my house.

Another thing she did which was cool was baby diapers on the puppies who weren't trained in the house yet. If they were out of their playpen in the house she put human baby diapers on them and saved her house from messes!! The males wore bell bands. These are great for when you take your dog to visit at other people's houses and you don't want to risk an accident because they are not in familiar territory.
Hope some of these ideas work for you.
