Pee Pad training.

Let me give you my info. Last year I found a 4 lbs yorkie on the side of the road, picked him up and did everything to find his owner. After 2 weeks, I considered finding him a good home, but well, he was already part of the family. I also have 2 pit bulls, that became best friends with him. So Peanut became a permant member. And I had him nuetered. The vet said he looked to be about 3 years old.

Now the problem is I thought I had him trained. He only had poopie accidents in the house every once in awhile, never pee. But now hes starting to pee everywhere!! And my male pit is now wanting to mark over everywhere Peanut pees. So I'm guessing my next option is pee pads, which I'm okay with, but how do I start?

I would use belly bands if he is marking, because chances are he won't use the pee pads if hs is marking. They mark where they want to mark.

Thats what belly bands are for? I always thought they were for girls in heat! So do they keep them from wanting to lift their leg or just as a diaper?

I have a playpen for my yorkie where he sleeps, eats, and pees and poos. During the day we let him out in the house and watch him very carefully. We have a pee-pee pad out in the kitchen. Everytime we catch him going pee or poo we rush him over to the pee-pee pad where he finishes. Then we praise him and give him a treat. Gradually, when he was out of his playpen, he would go to the pee-pee pad because he wanted the praise and treats. Goodluck!

I agree with the belly bands. Also, pee pad training an older yorkie is difficult, I did it with Hallie when she was 2.5 and it took a lot of patience and a lot of watching. She still isn't 100% but close. Lots of praise and a lot of treats

I don't have experience with belly bands but a lot of people use them for their marking boys! Good Luck

I use the puppy pads with mine, they have really done good, sometimes we have close, but most the time the get it right...I have one in kit, office, laundry room, I have even caught one of cats using it....

What I've read has suggested that marking accidents should be treated like any other break in toilet training.

Go back to the beginning. Take him to the appropriate place regularly and treat/praise heavily when he gets it right. Keep an eagle eye on him to make sure he doesn't have accidents in the house. When you can't watch him, keep him contained where he can't do too much damage.

Belly bands will protect your house but won't teach him the correct place to potty.

Personally, I wouldn't switch at this point to pee pads. I think it would confuse the issue. "I've been sneak-peeing inside and all the sudden Mom wants me to pee inside? Great - now I can go wherever & whenever I want".

Okay, so i have a male yorkie as well and he was doing so well with potty training until I moved and now he is a mess. What is a belly band? how does it work? Also, I am not sure if this is appropriate, or not, but I am looking to breed him so he can have a generation beyond him, because I am wanting to get him neutered to see if this will help the marking problem, so I would love to find a female yorkie for him to mate with. I live in Charleston, SC, and am willing to drive a few hours to meet. Thank you so much for ANY help.

I know awhile back I seen a thread where someone placed empty bottles (plastic) on the the pee pads. They filled the bottles halfway with water and removed the label. I guess this was meant for the male since they lift their leg up. It will take time to get him pee pad trained but I think it can be done. It just takes time and alot of patience. My babies are 4 & 5 months and the are 100% pee pad trained. When my male starts to lift his leg up I think I am going to try the bottle thing.
