Default Update: Toby come

Toby is actually doing really well......... he knows how to walk on the leash (loose leash walking) and we have been working on come..... he does great with the command "come" in the house, but outside was a little different story, so we got an "extenda leash" so that he could walk out a long ways and then i could call him........ he actually did pretty good, the only way we could get him to come before was to walk in the opposit direction, but now i just stop completely......... by teh end of the walk every time i stopped he would walk back to me. i didnt even need to say come, another couple weeks and i am hoping he will be in excellent training condition for the next step up

Thumbs up Woohoo!

Yay! Congrats, Toby! You're making great progress and we're all proud of you!

When we can, we take Sully out into our back yard (whe we don't have time for a proper walk) and Eli will stand on one side of our large backyard and I'll stand on thte other and we'll take turns calling Sully. He runs like the wind back and fourth and back and fourth.....until he's tired out! Isnt' that funny? LOL!!!!

Look forward to hearing updates on the next steps up!

you know what i found really weird with Archie? I have to say "come" in only one voice. he won't come if I say come here like i would to a person, but if i say it in a high-pitched voice, he comes running. I must have used that voice when training him or something, or he equates it with treats...who knows? all i know is I sound really dumb...

oh and the other thing that i forgot to add is that one good way to have him come to more than one person is for both of you to sit on opposite sides of the room, and throw a ball back and forth while saying "come."

don't get me started about balls...my dog is OBSESSED. every time he goes to the park, he manages to find a ball. the other day, he found a basketball and kept pushing it with his nose down hill until we got home. the next day, he carried a baseball in his mouth all the way home. Today, he managed to find an ENTIRE FAMILY with a yorkie, and a husband who was holding a tennis ball. Archie harrassed the hell out of those poor people and the husband kept hiding the ball, but archie knew he had it and would not let go of him.

the other day, kids were playing handball, and archie took their ball. the kid came over trying to get it out of his mouth and he would not give it back. the kid's grandmother is like get the ball, get the ball...I'm like, Lady, listen, he's a puppy. he likes balls, let him have it. it's a friggin' handball. I'll buy you another one.

then, there's george's (a 99 cent store), where archie waits at the door of the shop until someone opens it so that he can run in and grab the balls that are in a little basket. then, i'm forced to buy it for him because it's been in his mouth.

Our house is full of balls...i even got peanut butter flavored tennis balls in Key West.
