Training treats?

I am looking for some training treats that my yorkies will love. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know yorkies can be picky so I dont just want to go out and buy anything. Plus I want them to be bite size so i can use them every time they go potty.

Petsmart carries this small canister of dog treats . .brand name is Natural Choice I think. They are a bit chewy but it is awesome as it looks like a steak . My Tiger adores it and will do anything to get some. I used it a lot when he was in puppy school.

Yeah I have seen those! Hopefully they arent too fatty b/c I want to be able to give it to them several times a day. My oldest yorkie Asia can't gain anymore weight so I have to worry about that.

You can always cut it in half . . . heck I even cut it in thirds because that was a concern of mine too since I need to keep him repeating the trick and everytime he does he gets a treat . .

I bait using plain boiled chicken breats. I have seen some people use veana sausages and another treat called Bill-Jack liver treats. They are sold at most pet supply stores. I have used the Natural Balance food rolls once. You can cut the roll into small pieces and it last forever. They worked fine but I stayed with the chicken breast because it's low in fat and is not as messy. I also heard of some people using diced cheese, but not regularly.

i had the harest time finding a good training treat for bunjee. he's just so picky! i bought a bunch of different ones from petsmart. lucky for me, they have a pretty liberal return policy. bunjee's favorite training treat ended up to be mozerella cheese. i just cut a bunch of bite size piece or pieces of shredded cheese. i also use beef or chicken jerky strips/sticks that i can break apart into bite size pieces.

Oh yes, Petsmart is awesome with their return policy . . . so I did mind experimenting. I actually got the chicken jerky but ended up returning them. It scared me coz Tiger sometimes gets way to excited when eating and don't chew it well enough and I fear it might get stuck and tear his esophagus or something . . he loved it though !

I use Charlie Bear's and I get them at Petsmart. I use to have to get them from Trader Joe's but finally my Petsmart started carrying them. I call them cookies... The cost is a lot lower and are only 3 calaries per cookie.

Try Yogurt drops good calcium source and healthy great tasting my Queen Lily is a picky eater she love em.... and good for tiny babies not hard to chew I got mine at Petsmart it's $2.98 good price and I bet you lil baby will do anything just to get it LOL

I like to use "good healthy food." I cook chicken and cut it up into bite size pieces....have lots around - and in the freezer. I use cheese -and other meats (leftovers) etc. Plus - include any other health foods that your dog likes................

This way - when I give my dogs a lot of treats - I just consider it part of their healthy food for the day.

I have been using Cheerios-I read someplace that Yorkies love them and they are so small that they don't ruin Max's appetite for the real food. A funny new mom story-the first day we brought Max home, our breeder had sent a small bag of the treats Max was getting. She was using the Milkbone small dog treats. Anyway, everytime Max was good (i.e. potty outside), I was giving him a treat (four total that day) and then wondering why he wasn't eating-lol. Anyway, I now use the Cheerios when training (crate, potty, etc) and use the Milkbone treats for pooh outside which has been his latest greatest accomplishment!

You can keep slices of the Natural balance meat roll in the freezer and defrost one at a time. Break off rice size pieces as a treat. It's a high quality dog food that most dogs love.

My Sissy loves "Gimme A kiss" bones by Old Mother Hubbad. Ingredients are whole wheat flour, oatmeal, chicken, molasses, spearmint, parsley, eggs, apples, carrots and sea salt. They are tiny bones, but I still break off just a piece cause she gets a treat each time she goes to the bathroom outside. They also come in other flavors; peanut butter & bacon/cheese. I get them at PetSmart - best of all only $1.08 a bag!!

I just wanted to second the Old Mother Hubbard biscuits...Wicket loves those. You can get them in large or small bags...I break them in half even though they are small to begin with...it takes Wicket a while to eat his treats.
