What is a belly band and where can i buy one - My Yorkie is a year old and still hikes and pees where ever he wants even though I let him out a dozen times a day. he has not been neutered yet and I'm thinking that might be part of the problem as there is an older female (15) and a neutered male s**tzu (5) in the household as well but Lil Bit is the only one that urinates in the house

I ordered a pink gingham harness vest from Spoiled Pooches...good service, good quality and price and noticed they sell belly bands.....look at he cute clothes, too !!!!

My Yorkie is 5 years old, most of the time she will use a pee pad to tinkle, sometimes she'll manage to be on target for poop, but most times the poop is in the "general vicinity" of the pad!!! Like many of you it seems that she likes throw rugs if you don't watch her... I take her to my office and keep a pad near my desk, she ignores it and instead walks to the rug I have at the entrance to my office!!! I've found that with Yorkies you have to watch them and pick up on the signals they send. Also limit the water and food if you are taking them out, don't feed or give water near the time you are leaving. Feed them well in advance. Bottom line - for all the joy they bring to you, I can live with the potty training issue! Besides better to pick up after a 4 pounder than a 40 pound dog!

I've had Gabby for just a little over 3 months. Got her when she was 9 weeks old. I was told to train her with pads, which i've done, but i don't want her to only use the pads. i want her to go outside when she has to go. i'm wondering if i'm confusing her by leaving the pads around but also trying to get her to go outside. so far she's not very good. she'll pee right next to the pads and lately she's started pooping everywhere but on the pad. she does a good job of going potty outside, but then she'll come in and 5 ot 10 minutes later she'll pee on the floor. i'm starting to wish i hadn't started her on these pads.

Hi Tjules, I see you live in MN trust me you will be glad to know your baby is trained on pads come winter, I am in SC and honestly for a dog as small as a yorkie I am grateful I don't have to take her outside to use the bathroom especially when the weather is bad, or early in the morning. The pads do not leave a odor if you remove them after being used. She may become confuse if you try to train her to the grass. I would stick with the pads you'll be glad you did.

you know...it's so frustrating...i just came in from having her outside and she went three times before we came in ...and we hadn't been in more than 5 minutes, and she walked to the pad, and peed right next to it. if she was good about going only on the pads, i wouldn't care, but she isn't. sometimes she goes on the pad and just as many times, she doesn't. i decided to try the pad training because we work all day and couldn't get her outside so often, but now i'm home at 10:45 each work day and she actually is worse than ever. she's the hardest dog i've ever had to train.

I honestly don't have faith in a yorkie ever really being housebroken, (see my previous post from 6-17) they say that toy dogs are the hardest to train and I still have to watch my yorkie who is 5 yrs old like a hawk. Don't give up your baby is still a puppy... about 5 months old right? She will get better as she gets older because she'll have to use the bathroom less frequently. Do you have the pads in specific areas, where you can close her off in that area? Or do you have the pads in various spots? Put the pad in a small room like a laundry room or bathroom and after she comes in from her walk, close her off in that room for about 15 minutes, do that each time and she'll start realizing that she need to go in that area. Make it a habit after the walk and do it consistently.

Also check with your vet to rule out any health problems.

I had that same problem with TJ. I had a large rug under the table. He would poop on it, if I wasn't watching. He went on the training pads just great, most of the time, but he prefered going outside. So, I finally took the rug out until he was 5 months old. He doesn't go on it anymore. He is now 7 months old and the only place he goes now is outside. I kept the potty pads down until he had gone 3 weeks without one time of going in the house. He loves it outside. Last month, I installed a doggie door and all 3 of them go out when they need to.

Yes He uses the pad majority of the time no matter where we go so he knows what he is doing. But then for whatever reason he uses the rug when he wants also. I dont know how to stop it and it is driving me mad!

I yell no when he goes on the rug and he doestn stop he just stares me in my face like "to late haha" And I reward when he goes on the pad. So he pees on the pad I reward. Then he poops on the rug.

So I am investing in a little green machine to clean my carpets until someone can tell me how to fix this problem.

we kept her in the bathroom, which is carpeted, and she clawed all the carpet away in front of the door. so my husband said no more of that. and he won't let me partition her off in the kitchen. i have two pads for her...one in the entrance to the kitchen and one in the basement. we have a finished basement and it's in one of the rooms. i had a toy poodle back in the 80's and she trained in about three days. she had two mistakes and they were both on linoleum. easiest dog we've ever had. what i just don't understand is why she will go right next to the pad instead of on it. she definately has a mind of her own. and she seems smart for some things. on monday and tuesday i put her in my son's bedroom when i went to work. and on wed after we had gotten up and went outside she came up and laid right in front of his closed door waiting to get in. she remembered that after two days, but she can't remember to not pee on the floor after 3 months of doing it and catching heck for it?

I got Izzy the day she turned 6 weeks old. I was lucky and It only took her about a day or two to use the pad. She is 8 weeks old now and she uses it ALL the time. I have learned that she will not poop and pee on the same pad, so we put two down for her a little bit apart. She is so funny with new pads. as soon as you put a clean one out she will run over and strain out a droplet and then run off happily!!!! haha

When Sandy is in heat (she is 3 yrs old), I put her in a washable little doggie pant that uses a removable liner. Instead of using the little doggie liners that go with this brand... I buy ladies panty liners. They are a LOT cheaper.. and they work great. One of the breeders I talked to told me about the pants and that they used the ladies liners. (Because of the price.) It keeps everything clean and sanitary. I remove the pant and change the liner, while she goes outside to potty... and whenever it needs changed. They sleep with me... so I don't have to worry about a mess or odor in our bed... or on the furniture.

i'm wondering if everyone that has posted here actually want their dogs to use only the pads? wouldn't it better if they know that they are to go outside everytime and then if you have to leave them for any amount of time put a pad down and they can use that if they need to. Gabby used the pads the very first day we got her. and she does use them, it's just that she doesn't use them consistantly. yesterday she peed on the floor twice and the day before she peed either twice or three times. i don't like to have to have those pads on my floor so we have to step around them for the rest of her(or our) lives. My goal would be to only have them down when we are gone for several hours.

My Yorkie uses pee pee pads exclusively. She will go outside if we happen to be out anyway. She will also scent mark every few yards when we go for a walk where other dogs have been ( I tell her she's going to run out of fluid before the walk is over !! lol)
The only problem I've had is she goes to the pads to poop, but just in the vicinity. Most times no directly on the pad for that. Thank goodness she's a small dog !!
