Default He Pees Everywhere =[

hey everyone,
I have a REALLY BIG problem. My yorkie PEANUT, is 1 year old & still not potty trained. he CONSTANTLY pees on every corner of the house and weve already have had to pull up a carpet and hes ruined our hardwood floors in one room. i have peepads and i thought he was using them the way he should but when i pulled it away he still did his business there reguardless. He pees EVERYWHERE and ALL THE TIME. Even if i bring him outside and he pees, only 5 minutes after bringing him back in the house, hes peeing on the kitchen table legs. Its starting to get really bad and i have no idea what to do, its like his bladder is never empty. Is it too late for me to train him myself? how do i get him to just do his business in one designated area, as well as get him into the habbit of scratching on the door to be walked or ANYTHING! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to YT.
Is Peanut your only dog? Is he neutered? Sometimes that helps. I have 2 studs that do the same thing. I keep belly bands on them inside the house. They love to mark everything, esp. if one of my females is in heat.
I also have 2 neutered males that never ever wizz in the house.

is he fixed? Neutering might help. It isn't too late to train, but it is difficult after bad habits have been reinforced.

Have you tried crate training?

he isnt neutered, i havent tried crate training, im not exactly sure how that works. I really really need help! its so out of control, i never knew a tiny little dog could do so much damage to my floors. hes such a good dog and he listens very well ACCEPT when it comes to that. Hes peed everywhere in the house, even if i do crate train him, when i let him out he'll surely smell where hes marked his territory before and just continue doing it. Its so difficult and frusterating, if you have any ideas, any at all, please help!

I have started crate training Tiger and it has done wonders for me. It really isn't so difficult. Figure out how long you think he can hold it that should be your starting point. Start crating him for that long for the first week then increase to half an hour every week until he can hold it for 8-10 hours. As soon as you take him off the crate, bring him to whereever you want him to go (was it outdoors) and in less than a few minutes he will have relieved himself. This way you do not have to worry about accidents and there are no surprises. Since my Tiger isn't marking everywhere, he only stays in his crate while I am at work. When I get home, I take him out and as soon as he has done his job, I let him run loose in the house for about 15 minutes max and then either hold him, put him in my laundry room to roam free there or on my bed as he does not soil that either.

Hope this method works for you . . .

My Toki isn't neutered either but he doesn't mark territory any more. I think your baby is marking territory. You can either neuter him or try to be persistant to train him not to lift he's leg.

Have you considered bellybands to save the floors until he is trained.

A great idea is the liter bottle wrapped with the wee wee pad and rubberbands and placed in the middle of another wee wee pad. Does he get rewarded for peeing in the right place? is he "caught in the act" and removed immediately to the wee wee pad?

These are things that have all worked for me. Good luck.

My male maltese did the same thing until I got him neutered and then he didn't do it anymore! I was astonished! My dogs don't know how to tell me that they need to go out either, so I have started training them to ring a bell. Check out www.poochie-bells.com... that's what we're using. Good luck!!

Default How long can he be in crate

Remy turned 1 year in November and after some changes in potty places (Due to moving) I have gone back to crate training. My question is how long should he be able to hold his bladder. I thought I read up to 10 hours, but the longest he has been in has been 6 and he went pee in his crate. I am very frustraded. Just when I think he is completely potty trained he starts going in the house. Also when can I begin to just let him roam at least around the living room while I am gone?

PLEASE HELP!

Remember their bladders are a lot smaller than larger breeds....I should think 10 hours is really stretching it!

I am not sure about 10 hours but am hoping that my Tiger can go to about 9 hours. This is so that when there are days that I cannot go home to relieve him, he won't mess up but on normal days I would say my goal is to relieve him every 7-8 hours. Right now he is holding it pretty good at about 6 1/2 - 7 hours but I did not do this overnight. He started with 4 hours and gradually increased it in increments of 1/2 hour. I do the increase on a weekly basis. You cannot expect Remy to be able to hold it longer than his bladder is used to. . . that is why you need to train it slowly.

Btw, Tiger is only 19 weeks last saturday . . . . so he is still a puppy but is doing so well. He sleeps with me every night and most nights he wakes up once and I automatically take him whether he needs to or not. But there are days when he sleeps straight without any problem. Since I had him sleeping with me at 10 weeks, he has not had one accident. Same with crate training!

Hope this helps . . .good luck!

Love Potty Training

Hello, I am new here, and a new mom to a Yorkie Male, who just turned 5 months old. When I set out to find a reputable breeder to get my baby, I read a lot and went to Petsmart and bought a small crate, along with all the other new mom accessories. We immediately kept in in the crate every moment that we were not with him, including at night with peepads. Bailey (our baby's name) took to it and after a while moved him and crate to the laundry room where he was gated in but had his crate available. After a few hours we would tell him we were going potty outside and would take him, now he is free to roam the house and we have litterally not had but a few accidents. For a month now when he needs to go potty, he stratches at the door like my other dog (who is not a Yorkie). It was a challenge but it paid off, he now stays in our home happily and without accident. I love him so much! He was a Christmas gift from my husband after we spent so much time looking and preparing....one of the best things we ever did!

I would put a belly band on him and only take it off when he is to go outside to potty or at night time if he is crated then.

Default Belly Band

What is a belly Band? Sounds like it is like a diaper. My dog would probably rip it off.
