Angry Help!

Hello everyone....I am new here, and am completely at my wits end with the potty training! I've tried litter box, pee pads, etc. I do have success going outside, but he comes back in and pees on the carpet 10 min later. He is 15 weeks old, and during the day I leave him in a pen with a pad. He will use the pad, then rips it up, etc. When I confine him in his pen when I'm home he barks CONTINUOUSLY! I'm sure part of my problem is giviing him too mush space in the house but the barking will drive me crazy. I am willing to start fresh with any suggestions. I have read books, talked to the vet, etc. This site seems to be the most helpful.

p.s when we tried the litter, he tries to eat a whole mouthful at a time....also he is 2 lbs....if that helps!

Mine is 5 months and she still does not go there. She goes to her pads on her own after she soils the floor. She thinks of it as punishment now. I have to rewire her somehow. I just bought a large crate where I will leave her when I am not around. Also, while I am in, I only leave living room available. It seems that I am doing everything wrong to train her. The only way for me to keep it clean is to put her on her potty after sleep, food and play. I also see when she is acting weird and lethargic and that is my cue to put her on the pad. It is truly a headache!!!

Hi! Welcome to YT! I see your baby is 15 wks. Yorkies can be very stubborn & they take longer to potty train then alot of dogs. My male took until he was 6 months to be about 95% potty trained. It takes alot of patience & taking them outside ALOT! They are very worth it though! And your dog is probably barking alot in its pen because it knows you are home & wants to be with you. How long would you say that you keep your dog in its pen in a 24 hr period? Also they have things that go around the wee pad to keep it down & that would probably prevent your dog from shredding it. It looks like a frame. You can probably order it online at petsmart or some place like that. Good luck with your baby!

Gilbert is left in the pen during my work hours 8-430, but I come home for lunch around 12...he has always used the potty in the pen(usually on the pad) before I get home at lunch....thanks to all for your replies

I think your problem is your pen is too big! The area where they are left during the day should be only big enough to turn around and lay down. They are not to be peeing or pooping in it. The thought is to hold until they go outside or where ever you want then to eliminate! Your furbaby might be to young, but you will have to find out how long he can actually hold it. Mine crys when ever he is in his crate, but only when I'm around to hear him.
Good luck.

the pen of course is bigger than the crate, but it's only 3x3 square. What happens if I put him in a crate and for some reason can't make it home for lunch....boy I am so confused...

At 15 weeks old he is going to pee every 5 mins. It's what they do and it will get better. One tip is to stay outside until he goes a few times, making sure he is truly empty when he comes back in.

If at all possible, you need to pick one method and stick to it. Pads or outside only. It's much harder to change later. Do a search for "Crate Training" on this site and you should find some valuable information. Let us know what you decide, that will make it easier to help.

As far as the barking, you have to ignore it. If barking gets him attention he will do it more. This is also where a crate can help.

Loki is totally outside trained, so I promise it is possible. It's a lot of work at first, but so worth it.

I use washable pee pads and train them to that then we move on to trainning outside. but in the beginning mine are kept in a fairly good size room and when I get them on the pee pads they seem to mostly go there and use them. More so than not.

I think with your works hours you can't possible expect him to hold it that long, so I would still keep a pad in the pen. But when your home train him to outside only. Only use the pad when your not home.

I would keep a pad in the pen when you are at work alos. I am home all day and that is how I am able to potty train my dogs outside only.

I'd say leave the pads down but don't "train" for the pads. Get the ones that smell like grass or encourage him to go there, but don't make a big deal about it. Enclose him in a small space with the crate and pad. Let him pee on them, but don't throw a potty party like you would outside when he goes there. Basically make peeing on the pad OK but peeing outside an amazing accomplishment and praise the heck out of him. Oh, there are plastic pad holders you can put around the outside so they are less able to shred them. Give lots of other toys so he can teeth on those. Dogs do love to shred paper. Loki shredded 2 reciepts yesterday. It was my fault I left them on the couch!

Good Luck with the training it can make you feel like pulling your hair out ..but they do learn eventually ,I found the best thing i could do was train myself ,You know watch for sure signs ..anticipate the need and pay attention to time , It has worked for me Mini is 18 weeks old holds it all night and can be left in her crate for six hrs without a accident , I think she would do 8 but doesnt have to . I am very proud of her she's doing great .
