I don,t think your're doing anything wrong. These things take time. Maybe one of the older members ( and I don't mean age lol) can direct you to a previous post on Potty Training. Good Luck.

how old is your yorkie? they tend to take a while to house break. It takes a lot of patience.

Also take him out when he first wakes up from naps, in the morning, etc. You want to take him when you know he'll have to go. The hard part is you gotta stay out until he does go. When he does, throw a party! Treats (I used small bits of cheese or leftover meat so that he'd really feel rewarded), excitement, praise (Good boy! You're the smartest dog in the whole world! You're my Angel!)!

If you can take a bit of his poop and put it in the general vicinity of where you want him to go, it might help. Dogs often stimulate themselves to defecate by smelling feces.

As the others have said, it does take TIME. Hang in there!

Watch her closely,if shes doing alot of sniffing and turns take her out, take her out after play, naps, eating,if she has an accident say NO! and take her outside right away for a couple of minutes, find a treat she loves something soft not hard it takes to long to eat, when she goes outside give a small piece of the treat. If you are unable to watch her closely for whatever reason then put her in her crate.Take water up after 6:00 pm,get her on a regular feeding schedule, stick to it!You will see progress if you are consistent. If there young 3 or 4 months it will take a little time to develop their muscles, but they get it.Last meal should be around 6:00 or 6:30 at the latest. What size portions are you feeding are they the right size?

Forgot to mention this if they do have an accident and you don't catch them in the act then forget about it,the no and taking them outside right away only works if you catch them in the act, thats why you have to watch them closely when they are out, dont give them free reign over the whole house either, let me know how you do in a day or two...

Default Yorkie Housebreaking

I have three male Yorkies, 2 three year olds and 1 two year old. Housebreaking them has been awful at best until I discovered Belly Bands. I tried neutering, I tried baby gating them, I tried a doggie door and this is the only thing that works.

I take their belly bands off in the morning to walk them and then replace them as soon as they come back in. I take them out again in the late afternoon, same routine. After 2 months, they no longer wet the feminine pads in their belly bands, they are not pooping in the floor and they are not hiking their legs on my furniture. When they come in from outside, they wait at the door for me to put the bands back on. I would strongly recommend them for people with male yorkies. The worse part is you pretty much have to bathe them everyday when you first get started.

You can find them online but they are really easy to make.

Talking Thanks

I really appreciate everyones help. I feed Lebron at 7:30 a.m. and then take him out 8:30 he almost refuses to use the bathroom. He sniffs around and as soon as we get back in the house he uses the bathroom. I also feed him at 5:30 and try to take him out at 6:30 or 8:30. I take his water up after he eats. I watch him and usually catches him in the act, I say no and he knows he is wrong because he runs straight to his bed and will stay there until I call him. I will implement all of your ideas. by the way he is three months. check out his pictures...

I have my training method posted on my website www.sylvanyorkies.com. Consistency, confinement and patience are keys to success. Best of luck and don't give up!

Loki would pee on his blanket and then shove it under the divider in the crate so he didn't have to sit in it. He outsmarted us! I had to take blankets away until he was a little older.

Thats funny Erin !! I don't undestand why she does it, she goes on the pads good. Then now and then she'll go on the blanket. I have her in a playpen with her pads and blankets in it. We are working on the crate I am nervous since she goes on her blankets what will stop her in crate !!!!

She either doesn't know the difference between the pads and the blanket, she doesn't know she is supposed to go on the pads or she is just having accidents.

If she goes in her crate she has to sit in it (if her crate is the right size) That is what should stop her. If she does go, it's lack of communication on both of your parts or you didn't take her out in time. Loki would pee outside and then 5 mins later pee in the house/crate (even when he was 4-5 months old, he has a drinking problem we've worked on since then). It's hard at first. But then we learned the signs and finally he learned to tell us when he needed to go.

Sort of, only cuter. They are like a cumberbund and I put a cut feminine napkin where his penis is (don't worry, you can't see it). They come in all sizes and colors. You need to measure around the belly at the top of his penis.

I found them on several sites but the least expensive was:

www.bellybandsplus.com

I would suggest buying at least 2, one to wash and one to wear (in the beginning)
