I need help I have a 2yr old yorkie, Keisha and a 6mth old named Jersey. Keisha has sort of accepted Jersey loves to play and run with her but when she is laying down, and Jersey wants to lay next to her she growls and snaps at her. She has started growling when anyone comes near her while she is laying down. I can sort of understand I say to the kids if she was a german shepard would you go and wake her and pick her up? But I do want some help so she doesn't bite which I think its leading up to, I do look her in the eye and roll her on her back and tell her no, then she's ok until next time.
Any suggestions!!

This seems to be fairly common with Yorkies, but you are right, you want to deal with it before it escalates. This is a form of resource guarding - I forget the name normally used - territory guarding or position guarding, something along those lines. There is an excellent book by Jean Donaldson that deals with all aspects of resource guarding called MINE! that would help you. Amazon carries it.

I am less sure it about resource guarding. If toys and food where involved it be resource but I am thinking it more the dominance aggression.
The old saying let sleeping dogs lay and I let her but also she needs to learn to accept a little more handleing and being disturbed with more grace and no growels.
