Default Ok so I think Im going to crate train Daisy..

This morning I put her in my tiled bathroom while I was out for a few hours..and put 4 pads down. Well she peed twice and pooped once no where near the pads! I soaked some pee up with them and left them out...and put her in there again when I picked the kids up from school. And she proceeded to use the floor again!

So I dont think the pads are working for us. So I think my only other choice is to crate train her. I know she is going to HAAATE it as she's been free since she came home! She barks when she's in the bathroom...gonna really bark in the crate!

So how do I go about doing this? Put her in cold turkey? I know to take her outside when she comes out....then do I leave her out a while, then put her back, and continue.......She sleeps with us all night, has from day one, and doens' thave any accidents, so I can leave her in my bed at night. But mostly this is for when I leave the hosue...and I think I may leash her to me dyring the day unless she's in the crate..does this sound like it may help?

I need to get her a diaper for when we travel as well..we have an RV that we take alot, and I'll want something for her while we're in there and when we visit over the holidays.

Ok, so any crate training advice WELCOME!

Daisy and her confused owner, Amy

Do you clean the area she pees on with vinegar solution? If not, then she will continue to smell it and think she can pee there. I have had very good results with just giving Muffin enough room to walk to his food, bed or crate. So nowhere for him to potty, unless by his food. He has only done this once. His crate is open with a pad in it. So he goes in, does his business and goes back to his bed. I dont keep him out too long, till he learns he cant go on my floors. I wish I knew how to post pics so I can show everyone how I do it. Good luck!MuffinsMom

The problem is that if I dont catch the spots...theyve dried and I dont know always where it is...so how can I do the vinegar? Just basically scrub my whole carpet with a brush/spone and the vinegar? How many parts water/vinegar?
I was thinking of going to get some Simple Soultion and a black light....

Im so confused on which route to take But I need to do something!

I am opposed to crate training anyway but I would discourage it with a dog of Daisy's age that you have rescued. A crate is too much like a cage and isn't she already sleeping in bed with you? To change that now would be wrong in my opinion. I think you need to keep working at it with the constant supervision and reward. You can teach an old dog new trickes, it just takes a little longer. I vote for giving her a longer chance.

We dont use crates either. So im no help there. But if you are planning on her being in the crate at night ? If shes already been sleeping with you, You might find it harder for her to get use to a crate after being in a bed.

I dont plan on crating her at night..she has slept through the night since day one with me, so thats not my problem. I was thinking of doing it when I leave the house.

She did good this morning with going outside 3x and going each time

I was going to use the crate for when Im gone more than like an hour..then taking her outside as soon as I return........she wont pee in her crate I dont think...a opposed to leaving her in my bathroom while IM gone, where she will mess......
