Default Biting Collar

I'm having major problems right now b/c Miso has been tearing up his collar and his harnesses and I've gone through 6 of them in 3 days now. I would put him in his crate and when I come back in a couple of hours the pieces of the collar/harness is all over the crate. He just suddenly started chewing them apart and I need him to wear that all the time b/c thats how I know where he is in the house b/c theres a little bell noise whenever he walks around. Help me please b/c so far I've spent 60 dollars paying for these...He just tore up a collar and a harness that I bought YESTERDAY!

I would suggest you not use collars and rely solely on harnesses. That said, I wonder how he is doing that...1 thing you should know is that harnesses and collars should come off when it's crate time. They can snag and cause serious problems, that might be what started your pup on their quest to destroy all things clingy.

Nude in the crate...Make sure you have a good fit otherwise. Try something more comfortable like a vestharness.

There is a company called Lupine that makes harnesses and collars and gaurantees them not to break even if chewed. I believe they give a money back gaurantee. I also agree they should not wear collars or harnesses in there crate.

Likely to get the pup hurt IMHO...A collar should break away on a smaller dog just in case it snags on something. There's a lot of bad stories about "his collar got stuck on...." and they never end well.

Given that the soft trachea defect associated with CT is undetectable, I would recomend getting a harness asap, and one that's comfortable for the dog.

I am having the same problem with my 5 month old baby. I don't put him in a crate but when we come in I try to leave his harness on to get him used to it. He spends very little time in it at all. I would like to be able to have it on him while we are home during the day with tags. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. My youngest can almost reach the glass door handle! I think thats when I am going to have to worry!

I know there are leather ones. My mom has sugested that I just get one of them -- they are a little bit more expensive but may be well worth it. I will have to get back to you with the name of the site.

Indy is a collar and harness chewer also. He likes his leashes too! I keep a collar on him with his tags, I tried the harness with the tags but he could turn around and chew on them and eventually pulled them off. He can bend his head down and get his lower jaw under the harness, then just starts chewing until he chews through. The collar he can't get at, although he does try his hardest to reach the tags. I leave the collar on all the time, but the harness is on only when I take him out. I usually drop his leash on a chair when we come in, I learned that isn't smart either, 2 leashes later.... I do agree with Hamoth, a collar and harness should break away so a dog doesn't choke if he gets stuck on something.

Here is the link I was telling you about. I didn't want to get one because I don't really like how they look but if it will save me from having to keep buying harnesses I will do it. Atleast until he out grows this stage!

Lupine is a great Company. They guarantee all leashes collars and harnesses to be chew proof. Even if they DO get chewed you just take the pieces back to where you bought it with the receipt and they will give money back or a new one. I have never had a hassle when one got broken or chewed(spelling).
They only cost a couple more dollars then the regular collars and some places have really cute styles.

We bought a cat collar that has this stretchy thing and if she gets stuck on something it pulls away and she can get out.

I used a safety cat collar on Gucci, if pull on it will brake loose. I have her tags and a bell on it. SO far so good. Inside the crate maybe you can take the collar and harnesses off. ALso you can spray bitter apple on it or use clear deodorant roll on on it. Good luck.

That is the same harness i use for my two Yorkies. The harness is called a Buddy Belt and they are extremely popular where i live. That is actually a really good price on that site. For 1 Buddy Belt here it costs $53 (and that's for a Yorkie size one). They are made out of Leather tho so i don't know how well they would stand up to being chewed on. They come in tons of other colours if that's not what you like about it.
