| I was just curious at what age everyone started training their Yorkie tricks? Zeke is 4 months and we have started teaching him the basics...sit, down, stay, come, release. He is still learning these but i want to teach him fun tricks too. Also my husband and I use both treats and his toys to encourage him. It just seems like we are going through a lot of treats and I dont want him to gain weight. Is there anything else we can use besides food? |

| I was training Uni with plain old kibble when she was about 4 months. HAHAHA she didn't know what a treat was until she was over a year old! But you can use bits of cucumber, carrot, tomato, hard boiled egg white, tiny bits of string cheese. I have noticed though, that once we started giving Uni tastier treats, she would just forget we were training and just whine to get at the treat. That's why we just used kibble when she was a baby. Now she understands when we are in "training" mode, but in the baby stage, it's just "OMG what is that? I want more! so yummy!" and she wouldn't listen. good luck!

| what i do is take a part of sky's food and use that as treats for training - so she isn't getting any extra food just part of its not in her bowl. Then occasional treats are for very difficult tasks etc (sky particularly loves pieces of sausage - but these definately arent low fat!) |

| Owned by Jackson ♥ Donating Member | I started when Jackson was 11 weeks old. First was simply "sit" and then the rest soon followed! Now he knows about 11 tricks but we're still working! I always use his FAVE treats, little bits of cheese, or just plain chicken breast pieces. That's what we use to teach him new tricks usually. But his favorite treats ever are Wellness treats, they're little square shaped, as well as these little tiny treats made by Bil Jac and another by Nature's Recipe that I got at Petsmart. I usually break treats up in tiny pieces if possible. He doesn't care how tiny it is as long as he gets it.
