Default Need some help tips

Hello everyone thanks for my welcome i'm new here and i have been looking around your site for point tips on how to house break my lil Silky Terrier he just turn 3 months old today and i know he still young. I'm home all day since im out of work right now due to a arm injury. I have his crate in my Kitchen and its open all the time so he can go in and out as he pleases and i have 1 section of the kitchen its a corner where i have news paper layed down for his needs. I have a small gate on the entrance of my kitchen where it gets block off at nite only or when i have to head out. He is always loose and runing all around the house when I'm home but he pee's & craps anywhere he likes after each feeding i wait a few mins and carry him over to the newspapers and tell him peepee here he looks at me and just sits down and waits for me to move or get tired and off he goes runing all around and pees over by the hall way or the living room. I clean the entire house floors since my entire home is wood floors no rugs and i even purchase at petco No-Go! Housebreaking Aid & Simple Solution Potty Training Aid. I spray down my news paper with the potty traning aid which is surpose to help him and he licks it like its water this lil guy is very funny. when he is in the livingroom with me playing or napping I'm always watching him but if he wonders off i follow him to see where he goes or what he is going to do but while I'm watching him he does nothing i never get to catch him on the act. Then finally he just happens to catch me off Guard and Goes really quick. Please is there anything i can do I'm trying so hard to work with him and teach him before i go back to work.

I know EXACTLY what you mean...Lola has done the same thing. I got her almost a month ago. She goes to the potty on pee pads. The only thing I can tell you from what little experience I have had is to be very consistant and patient. It does get to be trying at times but you have to remember that this comes with the territory. She still has her accidents from time to time. Maybe just try the pee pads and see what happens??? It's a constant thing to be right behind them all the time I know but I don't really know of anyone thing can get them trained to perfection. I just ordered a book from amazon.com to help educate me on the training process so if this works I'll be sure to pass this on to you

Hi and welcome

You really need to confine your pup to a smaller area and not let him have the run of the house. If you want to pee pad or paper train him then you can keep him in a small area of the kitchen with his crate in it and pee pads covering the floor area just outside of the crate. When he does his business on the pad or paper then you can praise him and give him a treat and he will learn the pad is where you want him to go.

Please dont let him have the run of the house. He could get into that habit and believe me it is hard to break them of this. I have been there. many years ago.

I agree, he's got way too much freedom at this point in his life. Get an x-pen, baby gates, whatever it takes to restrict him to just 1 or 2 rooms until he earns privileges to the whole house.

Hi again

That pen looks really nice.Seems a good size for your pup as long as he cant jump out

The best way I found is to keep him in his pen unless you are going to spend time with him and not leave him for a minute on his own. If you have to answer the door or something put him back in the pen. When he does a pee or poo on his pad then give him a tiny treat and lots of praise. He will soon learn what you want. Then after he go's that is a good time to spend with play time etc.

After a while you can start to give him a little more freedom but always have the pen near and the door open so he can go in on his own to do his business. and dont leave him on his own.If you are training for outside the best way is to start right away taking him out first thing in the morning and as much as you can all day.But if you are starting back to work then it would be maybe easier to just have him pee pad trained for now.

My pup is basically becoming outside and pee pad trained which I dont mind at all . He is starting to figure it out that it is ok to pee or poo on the pad and outside but not anywhere else.He is in no way totally trained though.

This is just how I have done it and it seems to work but there are a lot of others that might have better ideas.

Anyway good luck with him.
