Cry Please Help!

Hi everyone. After trying almost every form of training method, I think that it's time to let someone else handle it. I have tied his leash to me to trace his every step and he just never uses it where he's supposed to. When I catch him and place him there, he stops and will continue off the paper. I've also tried crate training, but my neighbors complained about his crying while in the crate. I believe that I introduced him to the crate properly because he loves it and goes into it on his own when he wants to get away from everyone. Prince is very smart and I see potential in him to learn how to use the potty quickly, with the right guidance.

Basically now that I'm out of school, I figured I could train him, but since I'm interviewing for jobs, I assume I'll get hired soon. So I have a proposition for all the NY Yorkie owners that stay at home. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount to have my baby trained to go indoors. I could bring him to you every morning for a week and watch you train him so that I could learn. I am also willing to leave him with you for a few days or however long it takes, considering that I approve of your living conditions, training methods and home environment. I just need him to get trained or I will have to give him away. I love him way too much to just give him away. I will provide you with food, clothes, toys, crate. Whatever I'll buy whatever you need to do the job. If you are interested, please respond. I WILL PAY!! If you just have advice, contact me. I'm stressed out with this situation and I definitely know Prince is, on top of him being confused.

Hi

when I first got ruby she would go to the toilet everywhere and I really did not want that to happen so I confined her to the kitchen during the day and with myself and her toys when I got home in the evening and never took my eyes off her and praised her to the roof when she went on the paper repeating "good girl" and "wee wee on the paper" and showing her the paper until I was blue in the face. However after 2 weeks it must have finally clicked because she was house trained after that. So giving up 2 weeks really paid off! So much so, that now if we go anywhere to visit I just have to put a bit of paper down and show her where and she goes on it and runs to tell me when she has been.

Thanks, linda betts, I've actually een doing that but unfortunately couldnt be as consistent as i wanted to be because it was my birthday and things got pretty hectic. But I'm on a roll now.

As far as Doggy Daycare, I don't really feel comfortable leaving my dog all day in the hands of other people when I could try and maybe housebreak him myself. I've thought about maybe enrolling him after I start working, but then again he goes to the park often to play and someone is always home with him. PLUS the prices are ridiculous. I did enroll him in the Petco course, though. Thanks

The problem with potty training is you have to very consistant and very patient. Plus many small dogs are very stubborn about being potty trained.

Your statement: "I could bring him to you every morning for a week and watch you train him so that I could learn. and I am also willing to leave him with you for a few days or however long it takes, considering that I approve of your living conditions, training methods and home environment." will more than likely will not work.

Here is an idea. You might think of hiring a dog trainer or dog behavorist to come to your home to watch you and tell you what you are doing wrong and work with you to solve Prince's problem. And if you do choose this route, get referrals if possible. Not all dog trainers are alike and some are better than others. Find someone that has work with small dog and know small dog problems.

I am actually training him myself now with all the tips Yorkietalk members have given me. Its going great. I just need to work onbeing a little more consistent so that there are less accidents. The first week he learned to go on the newspaer on his own but then in the weekend things got real hectic since it was my birthday. But things are back to normal now. He also has a personal trainer to help him with his O.C.D. and is enrolled in the Petco course. Thanks yorkie agility.
