Toby biting (not play biting)

Toby doesnt like getting his harness taken off over his head. (am waiting on one of chattiesmom's so that should solve the problem)...

But anyway...
He is viciously trying to bite me (and succeeding) when I try to take it off him. The "ow" response is not working. He is going to a puppy class and the trainer says when he does something he shouldn't then to ignore him for a while. The lack of attention (not even eye contact) will get the message through more than shouting and getting worked up.

So I took his harness off about 7pm last night, after getting constantly bitten. Said "bad", put him on the floor, and he went off to his bed. We ignored him the rest of the evening until bed time. He stayed in his bed all evening, but he was exhausted because he was on a play date all day, so he probably didnt even notice that we were ignoring him.

Any suggestions.
He doesnt really play up on anything else.

Ooh this is no good
You need to stop this as soon as possible
because it will very quickly balloon into a full grown aggression problem
Most likely he is scared of the harness and is acting out because of that

I had a Lhasa who was very afraid of a hair brush
I let him smell it I touched him with it While I was holding him
and it took a while but he finally did get used to it

By whatever means you can you need to stop that biting and get to the point where you can do anything with your dog without him biting you

First time to see and I mean see a qualitifed proefesional in person.
Not enough info here to work with and no body lanugae clues and this is a dog that needs hands on not computor chat stuff done ith or on him.

not sure where you are but if you give me a state or province will go see who I can find for you.

There is no room on this boy to make an error in jubgement and no room to see if he can bounce back by woring tough love stuff.

I know what I do if it was my girl and that be call the vet behaviouist I have on speed dail and listen to her.

The lady that takes the puppy classes is a qualified dog behaviourist and trainer. I will speak to her on Tuesday evening. He is a really playful pup and is not agressive in any other way. I have a feeling he is testing his boundaries. He is almost 6 months and this has only started this week.

it could be a teething stage as well. they start to loose baby teeth and get new adult teeth. Sadie bites me all the time but she's a puppy at 9 weeks and shes' not doing it on purpose. i say "NO BITE" sometimes i yelp and ignore her, and sometimes i just get done what i have to do and then stop messing with her...

i'm in the same boat as you are with trying to harness or train her and anything hands on she's biting at me. she's not rough with me though and i don't think she's meaning to, she's just chewy and teething. i'm working on her nipping though

Good go do it make sure she is postive based so no alpha as a start point.
Not saying there is anything seriouly wrong but you just added it just started at 6 months to the picture and so not normal for him.
I rather error on the side of asking eyes on then not and mess things up.
He could be hitting teenage brattyness early but I just not willing to risk it. if I could see his body action then I feel better.

Please keep me posted as I can learn from what you glean from her and I do hope he just in teenage brattyness.
