I think I've created 2 little monsters...

I've never been one to really discipline my Yorkies or punish them when there bad (which I regret now). They've always had pretty bad manners and for a while I just thought it was cute. Anyways my main concern is I guess they always mooch when your eating, like standing on the back of the couch with their face right in yours or whining as your feet, and the other day Nana just grabbed food right off my fork! I still try to give them sh*t when their really bad but it never seems to phase them at all! I do not know what to do, they wont stop Charlie is still a puppy but Nana is already 1 1/2 yrs old... help!

Jackson's pretty well behaved EXCEPT when it comes to food/begging. He's terrible in that sense.

He's 8 months old now and I really just pick him up and place him on the floor. He knows commands so I tell him "down" and he lays down. He's getting a little better with it. Just be consistent. Continue to pick them up, place them on the ground, and don't allow them to sit up in your face.

My dogs never ever get a bite of food until I'm done and get up from the table. They sit under the table and watch and then when I get up they know it's time for them to get a bite. And that's usually all they get is a small bite of what I had left over.

The puppy is still learning but all I do is sit him back down when he jumps up and puts his feet on me or the chair. And ignore him.

Mine all eventually learned they get fed after I'm done which is good for alpha reinforcement also. Sometimes they don't even get any at all.

I've worked with them a lot. Putting them down when they jump up telling them no and even giving them no food! I dont know if I should be kenneling them when we eat or not?

I just give them a toy filled with a snack and they are so occupied with that they dont mind that I am eating. I take them into another room if I have company and they are content!! Hope this helps!!

Table manners for dogs esp little guys like Yorkies who can jump up on things very easily is VERY important

You have to set boundaries ... whatever you feel comfortable with and NEVER EVER allow them to go past those boundaries

Never feed Yorkies from your plate
Never allow them to jump on you while you are eating

Stop feeding them your table scraps. When they beg take a pan and hit it with a spoon. Make them get used to sitting before you feed them. If all that doesnt work then kennel them when you are eating

well lets see if anyone can help me .my yorkie wont eat !!! she only eats if i hold it in my hand she will not eat dog food and i have bought one of every bag on the market she only wants chicken and sometime she wont eat it she is very small she now 3lbs when i first got her she was only 1 pound she would not eat then i feed her with a baby bottle feeder and baby food she is 8 months old now .what do i do ?there is more she barks at every thing she even eat all the hair off her back leg the vet said it was from fleas i dont think so she is now taking comfortis and sentinel for fleas there 's no more fleas but she still biting at her back leg do i need to get another yorkie to play with someone please help me with this this is my first yorkie and i have read books about yorkies

Mine are very very good beggers
I have tried training them that they shouldnt park and cry at my feet but so far this one isnt a hit. Guess it takes time huh?

My littly furbaby is not a great eater either. I have bought every dog food out there hoping to find something she would be crazy about. She will eat chicken too. She has grown since we got her from 1 1/2lbs to 3-4 lbs. now my vet says not to worry to much when she is hungry she will eat. I give her her dry food in her night night bed at night and she will munch a little throughout the night. She is healthy so I guess she just doesn't need as much as I thinkn she does...good luck with your baby

As others have said, you have to decide on your limits and STICK TO THEM. Probably the easiest solution is to give them their own bone and/or kennel them.

If you actually want to teach them discipline (which is up to you, Thor is a pretty bad beggar), you need to decide what you want them to do while you eat. Is it okay if they sit at your feet, as long as they don't jump on you? Do you want them to wait at the edge of the room? Again, it's easier to let them hang out at your feet, but you MUST IGNORE them when they beg. If they jump on your leg, move your leg, but otherwise don't acknowledge it.

If you want them to sit quietly outside the room, consider getting a gate, and again, all you have to do is ignore. If you don't have a physical barrier, be prepared to "body bump" them back into place several dozen times during your first few meals - just walk slowly into them so they are forced to back up to their spots.

The worst thing you can do is stay strong for twenty minutes or so, and then crumble. That teaches them that that begging works, as long as they are very persistent. So pick your method, and commit. It can be done!

You might also want to stop feeding them human food, period, so they forget how scrumptious it is.

I do think if they are in a situation where they are exercising self control, like they are waiting for you to finish eating, they deserve a reward at the end for their patience.

This is what I did, once I saw it on a dog training show. Distract them with something better while people are eating, so when they see a person eating it's not a big deal to them. Capone has never really begged, he sort of paces back and forth while I'm cooking, but when I'm eating he doesn't even bother. Good Luck!

I made my last yorkie into a grand master begger. I fed him a little of everything I ate, I put a dog dish next to my chair and called it his "wish dish". THIS WAS A MISTAKE. My poor baby was overweight and when he got older he had heart and joint problems. He suffered from food allergies, which my vet never attributed to his eating habits and said that he was allergic to fleas or pollen. WHO KNEW? He had to take expensive medication in his final year of life, which ate at his stomach lining....long story short, I loved him into an early grave.

My new yorkie, Patrick, is five months old and has never had people food. When we eat he sits in his bed and chews a bully stick, totally unaware that having some of my food is even an option. I hope that you will learn from my mistake and not share with your little ones. It is not good for them and they depend on YOU to make the right choices for them.
