Default Face full of Yorkie

I adopted a rescue boy 2 months ago. He is 1 year old this month. I can't seem to break him of the habit of shoving himself in my face (or my husband's face) if he is sitting on our laps or in bed with us. Even if you're petting him almost constantly while he's on you or near you, he'll still want to give you a face-full every now and then. If you stop giving him attention, you're certain to get a mouthful of fur and Yorkie tongue within seconds.

I've been pushing him back and telling him "no" but he still keeps doing it. If I put him off my lap to try to ignore him for the bad behavior, he just repeatedly keeps trying to jump up.

Any suggestions?

Haha .... You're getting the puppy greeting

Yorkies do this a lot yes
But puppies ... when they are greeting an adult dog high on the social scale will greet them by face licking
This will diminish usually as the dog gets older
But if you want it to stop it will be easier for you to get up
than to stop him in mid-slurp

hahah Daisy must have gotten this from her Yorkie side...It all started when I would wake up and say "good morning" it sends her into a crazy face licking nose biting fiasco! All you have to do is say "good morning" and now she associates it with greetings and kisses... I'll be kinda sad when and if it goes away...

Ha, Thor does this too. It's a little different in the morning. He'll sleep near my feet at night, but when I kind of wake up and turn over in the morning, he takes that as a signal to walk up to my pillow and curl up there. So my last few hours of sleep, my nose is full of yorkie fur. I like it though.

Seriously, my advice is to wait a few months and see if it grows on you. It is a very affectionate gesture. Your yorkie just wants you to know how much he loves you.

My Biewer does this too. In the morning when I wake up but if I am sitting on the couch he will just jump up and climb up to my shoulder and start lavishing kisses on my face. How can you say no?

HAHA when you think you're the only one... YOU NEVER ARE!!

I didnt like the face licking at first... Expecially at 0500 in the morning. But it's grown on me. As soon as she hears the alarm she's in my face "MAMA MAMA GET UP! GOTTA PEE! SEE DOIN THE PEE DANCE. PEE MAMA! NOW MAMA! I GOTS TO GOOOO!" ok so she doesnt talk but i swear that's what she's saying!!!

I did hear that they grow out if it though. As long as you keep saying "No" it'll speed up the process. I think that was the first word that Honey learned was "No". Good luck!

Keegan is 7 & his licker is still going strong. I swear he'd lick my lips off, if I'd let him!

Default yorkie kisses

Depends on the yorkie too. Spice is very delicate and will give me a soft lick on occasion but Sugar is a very enthusiastic greeter. Her puppy Pippo takes the cake tho' (probably because he is only 4 mo. old). He's an earthquake of kisses and bites. I hope he grows out of it because he is getting bigger and stronger by the day.

Your yorkie is just telling you how much he loves you. You rescue this dog and who knows what kind of treatment he got the first year of his life. You've rescue him and he is being grateful and that is how he shows his affection. He probably did not get any before and now you are being so good to him and he is trying to tell you something. My Ella is 10 months old and loves to give kisses. But don't push him away you may hurt his feelings. I have friends who have dogs that don't give kisses and they see how affecionate Ella is and they say they wish their dog gave them kisses. So enjoy their affection. Yorkies are not only beautiful but lovable as well. Enjoy your new doggie.

My Teddy who is 2 1/2 absolutely loves to be kissed. He will put the side of his face to mine and I am supposed to kiss him. When he has enough on one side, he will turn his head so I can kiss the other side. When people see this they cannot believe it. He absolutely lives to be kissed which I think is awsome. I call him my little kissy bug.
