Default at my wits end!!!!

I love my sasha to death, but her flaws are nagging. Everyday its something. she constantly sits at the front door waiting for someone to walk down the street so she can bark, if i close the door she looks out the window. She slips out the front door and makes me chase her up and down the street. Even if i take her for a run/walk or to the park and let her play. Sometimes she goes in the bathroom and will tear up a whole roll of tissue. I really do need some help with this. I know that its partly my fault for spoiling her so much but i couldnt help it! Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

Sounds like you need to "sashaproof" your home. They are a lot like babies in that regard. They love toilet paper and anything they can shred for that matter . Hang in there and just remember why you love her.

Okay, working backwards:

- I know this is preachy, but this is why you shouldn't spoil your dog - you end up with an annoying dog. Fortunately, you now have a good reason to stop spoiling her.

- Tissues. You don't mention how old she is. Most dogs love tissues and puppies will die for it. The easiest thing is to keep them out of harm's way.

- Chasing her up and down the street. Teach her to Sit/Stay at the door, and teach her the Come command in the park. If she does slip out, don't chase her, because that is a fun game. Turn and run away from her so she chases YOU.

- Barking. She sounds bored (and again, maybe young?). Get her more exercise and stimulate her mentally with obedience training.

Hope this helps!

She sounds bored to me. Have you tried any of the Kong toys with treats in them, or the water bottle/tissue paper/sock toy that has been described on YT with instructions on how to make it?

If she looks out the door, close it. If she looks out the window, pull the blinds. You can even try a bark collar. I used to leave a leash on one of mine and I'd grab it when I went to the door to make sure she didn't slip out. Put up a puppy/baby gate to keep her away from the front door.

Does she have any play dates with other dogs? Do you take her in the car with you (securely held in of course) so she gets to see other things and people.

Good luck..

If she knows Sit/Stay/Come, how is it that she's running away from you on the street? That would indicate to me that she may KNOW the commands, but she's not FOLLOWING them when it counts.

I would suggest practicing with her at the door until you are really comfortable that she's not going to slip out. Every time she breaks her Stay, close the door and start again.

If that's not working, I would leash her before you open the door, because it sounds pretty dangerous for her to be running down the street!

All of these "symptoms" that you related sound to me like they might be from a dog who is under stimulated

You can train her not to bark and not to run away from you
But it might be in your best interest and of your dog's to get her out more
exercise and walk her more
and see where that gets you

Default Smart yorkie

My dog sounds just like yours. They are way to smart for their own good, and think of all kinds of ways to push our buttons. I just think it is the breed, and we have to learn how to out smart them, which is not easy.

My Shih Tzu is a barker and major 'runner-out-of-the-house'er. Never thought about it as MY doing until I read your post!! Thanks for the ideas. Now I know I have to get tougher.
