Omg OMG! Help! Urinating ON furniture

I need some advice PLEASE!!!!! The other day i noticed our living room couch smelled like urine a little. I was soo irritated, thinking Teddy (our older yorkie) was lifting his leg on the bottom. He has done this forever. So I went down to look for it and there was nothing... IT WAS ON THE COUCH. I dont know what to do, Teddy is now going on the couch and lifting his leg. He has done it on our bed before near my pillow but never the couch. I am planning on getting him some belly bands because we are soon training outdoor potty. I am starting to feel that he just goes anywhere and everywhere, now where it will dry so I cant see it. Any help is BIG help!

Potty training stinks doesnt it!! Laci peed on my couch but it was my fault , she is not able to get down , I feel asleep while she was up there and she couldnt get down so she had an accident, after that she continue to sniff in that area, I got that natures miracle stuff and that seemed to work!! I dont have a boy so Im not sure how that works!!Good luck

Could it be possible that he has an infect with the urea? I know this from my years with cat. I had some rescued cats and one of them was peeing on the furnitures when he had this infect. Then he was treated by the vet and all was okay and no peeing on the furnitures. I have learned that some pets which are peeing inside shows that something is wrong.

Or could it be possible that you have changed anything in his living area. Another pet was coming or the differences between the outside walks are too long or something like that?

He is marking territory. I wear belly bans on my 2 boys when they are in the house. I swore I would never do this but once they start this it's very hard to break them of it. I use poise pads (1/2) moderate and change them every 3-4 hours

I will check with the vet about this, thank you! We did move over new years, but he took to the new house very well (at first!) and yes we did get a puppy about six weeks ago. I can understand if he is upset and a little confused.
He has always had a marking issue! but it seems to have been really under control, especially when the new puppy came! It was almost like he was trying to show they puppy how its done!!! I really like him to be able to go on the furniture as he pleases but feel i may have to restrict him it this keeps up. I have some natures miracle, so I will try that too! Thanks!!

My Roxy started to pee on the couch - She was 4 yr when it first happened. She was spayed at 6 months, but she has Separation Anxiety AS WELL as marking issues. She is a good girl most of the time...but I have to always be on alert.

I rented a professional steam cleaner and cleaned the entire couch. Then I bought twin water proof mattress covers and covered the seat part of the couch with them and then tucked a sheet in on top - And when she would be un watched I spread a whole bunch of toys along the seat part, so there is no FREE area to want to pee.

It could be a possibility but I hope that he has no illness.

Maybe he thinks the little puppy got more attention as he. If the veterinary says that is all okay with him you should think about in which situation he is doing peeing on the couch.
I wish you good luck!

Roxie went through this phase for a little bit too. I was so irritated with it. She doesn't do it now thank goodness. I started putting a king sized quilt on my couch as a cover and you can put piddle pads under the quilt to help protect untill you get it under controll. Next furniture I get is going to be leather. If I'd have known years ago when I was raising my 4 kids and all the pets we had over the years I'd have never had cloth or carpet of any kind!

He is probably marking more because of the new puppy. Unfortunately, this happens a lot when you bring a new dog into the house, even if it's just a visitor.

Is your new puppy male or female? If it's a male, I hate to tell you but he will probably learn to mark from his big brother.

They are both males! I am afraid of that. Teddy(the oldest) lifted his leg on the puppies BED. OMG!!!! What the heck. I hope Pippo (our puppy) was not in it when he did that. I am going to have to get belly bands I think. We work from 7am and are home by 5pm so we can only keep our eyes on him after that. While we are gone I think this may help? I have no hope left

male dogs will mark places that they feel is "theirs"
It's not surprising that he will mark a Comfy Couch as something in his possession

but you need to set the boundaries with him where he can urinate
You have to make the ENTIRE house off limits

The way you do this is watch reward and catch
Watch him when he is some place where he is likely to mark
don't let him be unattended in these places
reward him when he pees either outside or on his pee pads
and when you catch him in the act
it's AH!!!
and run him right to the pee pad
marking is an instinct for males so it's not that easy to break but it's doable

I agree. I know people who have luck breaking marking by leashing their dog to them so they could watch them 100% of the time. If I were you I would really try to deal with his behavior rather than just letting him turn your whole house into his personal urinal.

Don't you get so stressed out about it! I find myself scanning the entire house every day when I get home from work. We have all hardwood floors so it is easier to clean.
