Default Bitter Apple Spray

hi, has anyone tried using bitter apple spray to prevent from chewing on furniture? my 9 week old occasionally bites the furniture, he'll stop if i'm supervising but i'm afraid he'll destroy my furniture if i leave him when i'm at work or school..

Bitter Apple spray works. One of Mimi's pups was a strong chewer & for some strange reason, she wanted to chew my dresser...I sprayed some & she took a bite & went 'yew!' & shook her head. Wood does absorb moisture, so you night need to reapply, but she never went back. On the bottle it does say that it can stain some fabrics or furniture.

Seems to have worked for me. Lola actually used to chew the wood molding around the doors but sprayed bitter apple and she stopped. I don't even use it anymore.
check a small section though as it can stain or change the color.

Yes we used it years ago and it stopped the chewing on stuff around the house...but then we also learned alot of them do it for attention or just boredom...Gotta Keep Busy when ur a Little One

Haven't used Bitter Apple, but have used Bitter Yuck. I can personally testify for how nasty that stuff is. After I bought it I squirted a little on my hand & tasted it. It is the most god awful thing I've ever tasted. What amazed me is that when Roxy went back to that spot & started to chew, she did lick it a few times before she decided not to do it anymore. Amazing to me that she didn't have the hissy fit that I had over the awful taste. She just calmly walked away and let it alone after that.

Wash your hands really good after using it. The taste wants to linger on the skin for awhile. Or you could wear gloves.

I used bitter apple and it worked great for mine. However if i were you i'd be putting your puppy in an ex-pen when you are not home since he is a chewer. you do not want him chewing something that could seriously hurt him.

Love Thanks so much for posting - I wondered about this at the pet store -

My Yorkie wants to chew on a knob on a chest or at least lick it while he is teething. Of course he has plenty of other things to chew on. Thanks.

I used Bitter Apple spray with Piper. Didn't stop her from chewing away. I now always have a bully stick for her and that seems to do the trick.

I was concerned that it wouldn't work because Gucci immediately went back to the windowsill and licked at it. He hasn't chewed that spot since, so I'd say it worked! Have to keep watching, though, because he found a new spot and we had to spray it as well. Now that he's 11 months, I think he's settled down and doesn't need the "wood" to chew on.

Default Didn't work for me!

My girls are serious chewers! I tried the spray SEVERAL times and they would sneeze, make a face, sneeze again and go right back to chewing on it a short time later. They are so stubborn! They turn 25 weeks tomorrow, does anyone know when they will stop chewing! They love anything made of wood-doors, moldings, sticks in the yard, and they have "eaten" at least a quarter of the wicker lid to my son's laundry hamper. Heaven forbid a book, a kleenex, or mail hits the floor, it will be in a zillion pieces in a matter of seconds!

Dog's do get use to the taste and start over-looking it.

The best thing to do is keep them occupied with a Kong, or other teething & treat toy.

Bitter apple spray worked for me. I only sprayed it a few times and now I have a bottle about 95% full that I am sure I'll never use again!

I first tried Bitter Yuck, which Chester LIKED. I sprayed it on my hand to test it and he came up and licked my hand until it was gone. Then I sprayed some more on while he patiently waited and he licked my hand dry again. Needless to say, I don't recomment Bitter Yuck for my dog as it clearly had the opposite effect it should have.

I have the same problem right now with Lucky. I went and bought the bitter apple spray once i saw lucky chewing on all the furniture in the room. He ended up liking the flavor its came to a point where i do not want my furniture chewed up that i removed my bed frame and im also scared of him getting hurt. Im out of ideas now on what to do with him on the chewing factor. any ideas on what i can put on the furniture other than bitter spray ??
