Default I just don't get it.

Mahina will play with other dogs perfectly fine! She's never growled at them, she wants to play with every dog she sees!

When it comes to people if theres someone walking a distance away and she sees them she'll growl and bark! I always give her a stern no (not too loud as I've heard that can make them think your barking along with them) or that sound that Ceaser Millan makes. Nothing works, only if I remove her from the area so she can't see.

I don't want her to be barking or growling at people. Is it possible she's learning this from the other dog (I'm always at my boyfriends house and their dog always barks at people walking by and runs away when they approach. ) I've also have brought her around many people so she can get used to them.

What can I do? She's fine if people approach her and will sniff them but barks at them from a distance.

First you are drawing attention to the wrong thing and therefore reinforcing it.
You scolding her and noticing the bark not the non bark so she think man oh man I get attention if I bark a people. It does not matter it negative attention at all.

So what to do intead ingore tha barking for what it is attention seeking and try and catch the person outside the point she gets upet andd treat and reinforce the calm and quiet that which you feed by food or prasie or even negatie attention you get more of.

I take extra special going out for a walk looking for bate human treats and make it a party of good prebark fun.

I've actually heard of that whole treat them when they're quiet and say "good quiet". Why didn't I think of that!

Thank you for advice. I can't take her for walks yet, after her next shots the vet said it should be alright.

Thanks again

Ugh.. why do vets do that... they know full well it to important for a dog to get socialized... My last one was out on one set of shots to classes at 8 weks old. I know the risks my choice but I also know the risks of no social skilss or lack of them.

Take her out in a bag or in your arms and go... 100 places. people and things and sounds by 16 weeks..... Carry her but get her out.

Your in the bay area get a hold of Dr Ian Dunbar..... or a staff person see what thay say and if you can puppy classes with him or his staff..

They be able to help you with little ones concerns.

She did say I could socialize her with other dogs I know are vaccinated and what not.
Since I work in a grooming salon I've brought her there and she's actually played with a few dogs. Since I know those dogs are vaccinated.
She's best friends with my boyfriends sister's dog. They could play all day! Or until they both pass out!

I've taken her to stores where I know they won't kick us out, she's met so many people but only dogs in the grooming salon or the neighbors dogs. She's never growled at any dogs, she goes straight into play stance(so cute) But I never set her down anywhere besides the house, lawn, or back/front yard.

So I've been working on that 100 places/people/things/sounds for a while. She's been doing pretty well just gotta work on that barking.

Thank you so much for your advice. She's gonna get out a lot this weekend (hopefully it's not raining!)

Oh wonderful, truly wonderful.. really good to hear.... That a way to go.
I have one that not socialized and it is H, E ,double hockey sticks at times.

Just remeber you have Sirius Dog Training that you can get help from if you need to have hands on.

Do keep me posted as you learn and work through things I learn too what works and how to adjust things. I like knowing how things work out.
