Default squirt bottle

so i ahve heard of people using squirt bottles to stop bad puppy behavior. i know she's a puppy and we've tried all the tactics to get her to stop biting our feet and hands, time outs, saying no, the vet suggested a move to show her whos boss, and she does the puppy equivalent of laughing at us. its beginning to hurt alot! i tried it last night and it seemed to work she stopped as soon as she got squirted.

has anyone tried this or seen that it worked? or heard/know anything bad about it?

Default It does work for us....

Widget is a 2 yrs old female furbutt, and has been around the squirt bottle, or a squirt gun her whole life....most of the time all I have to do is show it to her and she behaves, whether its barking or ?????...I also carry a kids water gun with me when walking her, and most of the time its empty, but once again all I do is show it to her and she quits acting up.....I thoroughly believe in them....I know several other folks that use them for their dogs and they seems to behave immediately when they see it, so guess its just conditioning.....

I think this form of deterrent is pretty common. A lot of people suggested it to me when I got my pup. My squirt bottle only has a fine mist setting, so it didn't seem to bother him much. I've also tried putting pennies in a soda can and shaking it. The noise startles them out of the unwanted behavior such as barking. Then you praise them for being quiet.

I use the coins in a can. It gets so I only have to hold the can up as I am sure with the squirt bottle also. I didn't want them to get them to be afraid of water for bathing purposes.

Default Squirt Bottle Works Great

I have a 3 and a 4 year old yorkie and they growl at everything. They both have giant attitudes. I started using a small squirt bottle about 6 months ago and wish I had used it years ago. It worked really well with barking also, especially when they are in the car in a parking lot and someone walks by. I only have to show it to them now.

I just started using the squirt bottle myself and I must say it works great! I had to do it because Pita gets overly aggressive when playing with our Golden. She has made her cry several times (hard to believe isn't it?) So I resorted to the spray bottle when Pita gets out of control in her play and it stops her instantly.

it's working! i cant tell you how excited i am the biting is sooo much better. i have a squirt bottle that has a most setting and a stream and she does not like the stream, i squirt a little as i say no, and now i barely have to squirt her she sees it and stops right away. i do make sure she stays dry though because shes so tiny i worry shell get cold, but im glad others have used it too!

If you are going to use it you need to make sure you teach what you want once you get the behaviour you do not want stopped.
So once the teeth come off you you need to tell him good boy no bite and pass him a toy to chew.

It better not to just stop it without replacing it with what you do want.

I prefer teaching to bite gentle and wean them off biting and bite control instead but no bite will work.

We used a squirt bottle when we were getting our tug trained to his kennel. he would sit there and just whine all night long but as soon as we used the water he learned real quick that if he was whining or barking or acting out in any way he was getting a shot to the face. as we were spryaing him we would use a command such as "quiet" and after a week or so of spraying him and saying quiet all we had to do was say quiet and that worked as well as spraying did. i would for sure recomend the spray bottle but be sure with whatever you are trying to teach your little doll you be very specific in your commands so everything isnt a no. weather its off the couch or down or quiet or anything else its like a trick they do. when you want them to sit you teach them that when you say sit they do it. so if they are on the couch and you want them off and you tell them no but you have been saying no all day about potty and chewing and barking and now they are on the couch it gets them very confused so be specific and they will learn faster.
