I've had Macie for 2 months and I'm getting really frustrated. When I'm in a hurry and want to take her with me that little turkey will run from me. She thinks it's a game and starts playing mad dog. What do I do to stop this. It drives me insane.

to answer your question....because she's a yorkie of course!

that sounds EXACTLY like what tucker does. it doesn't really work when we're in a hurry, we just have to grab him and run, but when we aren't in a hurry what we do is sit on the couch with the leash and say lets go and when he finally comes to us we give him praise and tell him he's a good boy and all of that. i think he's starting to get it. good luck with macie!

I suppose you could tell her to grow up. However, she is a puppy.

I would say it is her age...she is testing you to see who is boss...Sailor and Magic both went through this phase, Sailor most recently...it takes a lot of patience to get them to figure out that you are in charge not them...when you are not in a hurry work on the word come and stay so that she will know that in order to get to go with you she has to follow your commands...don't worry she will come around...

Keep a leash on her in the house. I know it sounds silly but it works. You don't have to keep her tethered - it's just easier to catch her when she has the leash on.

Also, you might want to find a good trainer. We've had Loki in obedience class for 4 months now (he's 8 months old) and he loves it, we love it, and we have an hour a week to ask questions like this! It helps because I trust my trainer (positive reinforcement ONLY, ignore bad behavior, reward good behavior, etc.) so we are able to discourage bad habits like this before they get worse. I could write a page of advice based on what my trainer has suggested just on this one "chase" behavior but it still may not help you because I don't know your dog. I know that doesn't really help, but it's seriously the best advice I can give!
