Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life (Hardcover)

But am looking for something more for just Yorkies

When i got my girls I got a book from Pets mart about yorkies. I suggest you save your money you can go to the old forums and learn a lot here

How can I get my spoiled baby to stop pullling on her leash when we go for a walk? She runs and pulls the entire time we walk, and we're going at a good clip. I use a harness.

You could use the ceasar Milan bite where you give her that fast tap. You could also take a spray bottle on your walk and when the acting up starts spray her. We use the spray bottle technique at our house and really all we have to do now is say "spray bottle" and everyone shapes up immediately

I have used the spray bottle in the back yard when my dogs torment the squirrels and they stop..I give it a try on walks. Thanks for the info.

It depends what you want for you dog. Cesar isn't an animal trainer, he won't teach you how to do to teach your dog to do tricks. I think of Cesar as I would Freud, he understands the "psyche" of the dog. He can tell you what a dog needs to be happy because these needs are not necessarily the same needs as humans. Cesar rehabilitates dogs that have been trained wrong and end up too aggressive. You can rent his whole series on Net Flix pretty reasonable, and you will learn how you should behave around your dog, and why. His methods are extremely important with people who own big dogs because a big dog should always know who is the boss, and should never think he's in charge. However, I believe his methods work well on Yorkies because sometimes they are too cute to discipline, and people end up with an out of control, unhappy dog. So knowing what you are doing really is making the dog happy helps in the training.

What exactly would you like to accomplish through training? Are you interested in housebreaking, trick training, or obedience training? Nearly all the people who write these books are behaviorists and their methods are very similar.

How about Karen Pryors book Don't shot the dog.
Jean Donalson book Culture clash
What you want to do is build a relationship with your dog and that is built with trust and respect and listening to your dog and its fears; not by force or bossing them around but by litening respect and gentleness.
It takes brains not force to train a dog.
Learning theroy says that which you use you get... force causes shut down and fear and force back. Repect gets respect and willingness back and a relatonship built on that.

when your dog starts pulling, make sure you are relaxed and not stiff when you walk. Also when they pull stop and then turn around and head back home each time the dog starts pulling. Once they stop you can turn and go back the other way. After awhile they will learn that they are not going anywhere till they straighten up. You can also stop make them sit and then start off again. Choke up on the leash so they can't get out in front of you. They should be walking either by you or behind you. Not out in front as they are being the pack leader and no you. Cesear is good he works with small dogs on his TV shows. Its mainly knowing if you are conducting yourself in a way they look at you as the pack leader. Or if they are training and you are following.

Be a tree.. so if your dog is pulling stop moving and do not move till they easy on the leash. then move forward.

As to turning around and going the other way... always loose leash as a leash is a safety net not a tool and a tight leash sends the signal that there is something you are to be afraid of.

So as you are about to turn and go the other way give the dog a warning call, so as to not pop the leash as popping is abusive and not needed to train.
Once you have the dog coming up to were you want it lots of praise and lots if you would like rewards at that spot.
Now if you are not going to go trailing any were near the leg and not pulling is ok even if it a little forward of the proper heel postion. Dogs are not out to take over the world or dominate they only want rules.
Remember that which you want reward that which you do not want ignore.
