My baby Cookie is 8 months old and she's been chewing for about 2 months now! She's been chewing all my corners of the wall and I asked my vet if she is teething and he says she is actually done. I don't understand why she keeps chewing everything! We have another dog at home that keeps her company and they play all the time so I'm not sure if it's out of boredom. I tried spraying the furniture/wood spray on the walls and it seems to just wear off so it does not work. She is scared of alot of items in my house such has spray bottles, air pumpers, big bottles of lotion, etc... so I would put one item that she is scared of at each corner of the wall to prevent her from going near there. Surprisingly, this seems to work! She stopped chewing those corners but she then eventually realized there were other corners in the house to chew on when no one is around.

She just begun to start chewing a hole in the carpet yesterday when no one was home. She was alone for 6 hours today and when I came home, the hole she chewed yesterday only just got bigger. If I leave for work again tomorrow, I know she will just continue to chew a bigger hole!

I don't know what to do anymore... she NEVER chews on any of the corners or floors when someone is home so I can't catch her in the action to tell her she's wrong! We provide her with dozens of chew toys around the house and she chews on that when someone is home, but the minute we are gone... she occupies herself with things she shouldn't be chewing on. I've heard that I should crate train her while i'm gone but truthfully, I don't want to do that. I'm usually gone to work for 8 hours a day and I don't want to leave her in a crate for 8 hours while my other dog has freedom around the house. I don't know what I should do anymore! And I'm also wondering... do they eventually grow out of this phase?

HELP! any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Tammy, you didn't mention what you give her to allow her to chew on.
Some dogs are just strong chewer's. My Buddy is one of them.
If they have nothing to chew on then they will find something, hence
furniture.
Natural bones, that can be found at any pet store, will give her something
to chew on and also keep her teeth clean. No raw hides, nylabones, greenies,
as these can be dangerous causing different illnesses.
Bullysticks are also recommended by many. Chewing is a natural occurance
and it's important that they have things to chew on.

i dont have much advice, just a whole lot of sympathy. My Jager eats EVERYTHING! Clothes, toys, blankets, you name it, He chewed the corner sfor a very short while, but will eat our clothes and ANYTHING with stuffing ( couch cushion, comforter, toys) even teh okastic toys she chews to pieces, And i feel terreible not giving him toys.

so i totally sympathize and wish i could help.
i would try to keep the dogged maybe in a pen while you are not home. My dogs behave during teh day when they are in their pen

I provide her with lots of chewing toys. I have stuffed toys, rubber toys.. i even tried buying kongs because some people recommended it, and she doesn't seem interested in it. She rips all her toys apart and all the stuffings come out along with it. I will try buying natural bones for her to chew on. I don't know what else to try.... Will they eventually grow out of this stage?

try putting clear, solid deodorant on the places she is chewing. the taste should be yucky enough to keep her from coming back.

Since she is doing this mainly when you are away, try crating her in a large cage when you leave the house. A large crate gives her room to play and fill it with different types of toys to chew on and if it is a wire crate it will be very open and will hopefully prevent her from feeling too closed in. (I suggest checking with your vet on the safest toys) Keep the cage clear from any furniture or decor because she will chew things on the outside of the cage if she can get to it.
Mine won't stop chewing at all. She is 3 months old and gnawing on EVERYTHING!!! When I leave I do this and she chews the heck out of all of her toys when I'm gone instead. Now if I could only get the potty training under control. I feel for ya, hang in there.

Piper is a 9 months old and she is a strong chewer. I find if I give her things to chew on she leaves the things she's not suppose to touch alone. Her favorites are the bully sticks, thick braided ropes, hard rubber chew toys. I don't give her nylon bones because it doesn't take her long to chew bits of the ends off.

She is probably upset when you leave, that is why she chews.

You will have to teach her the wrong and right things to chew on. Make sure she has a nice chew toy or a bone when your away. If that doesnt work, try some stuff caller Bitter Apple Spray. Our pups hate it, you spray it on whatever you dont want them to chew it on and they should stop. We learned this trick after several fixed couches

madison is almost 9 mos and she LOVES to chew. I have at least 2 dozen different bones all shapes and sizes. bullysticks, tendons, flossies, and venison thingies ( cant remember the name) but this is all she chews on.

she loves them and seems to satisify her.

This might be a wacky idea, and I've never heard of anyone else reporting it happening, but when I was young my mom had a female dog and was still operating under the idea that you're supposed to wait until the dog's first heat to get her spayed. Her first heat came finally, and this as yet unaltered dog decided to ruin our TV stand - first piece of furniture she'd ever chewed on since the day they brought her home. My mom blamed it on her being in heat, though never had any proof that that was the cause. She never chewed anything else inappropriate again after she was fixed.

Has your pup been fixed yet?

I sympathize with you because I have two that are teething right now and chew on Anything they can get their teeth on

since she is chewing on things while you are away
It sounds like she is trying to content herself by doing this bandit chomping .....
since you're not around to correct her it's almost impossible to stop her without confining her in some way

I would have to agree with JoeyP, I think you probably need to get her a play pen where you can keep her while you're away. My Baxter (14 weeks) has been really good and we have been very presistant and consistant when allowing him to chew on things. He has a pretty good idea of what he is allowed and what he is not allowed to chew at this point... I have been able to catch him in the act though.
