I started clicker training my 2 pups. I thought I would try it & am impressed. They love when they get their own clicker sessions & they only last 5 minutes at a time. Not doing a whole lot since they are only 8 weeks old. But both pups will touch your hand with their nose even running across the room & I only did 2 five minute sessions apiece with them.

Right not I'm concentrating on the potty training. I think I have the pups all confused. When they were at my Mom's the pups went on pads. But when we separated the pups for weening, I had them all at my house & no one would go on the pad but all over my livingroom. So I would take them outside when they woke up & let them play alot outside. I think I have them really confused now that I just have my two.

I would like to have them go in a litter box outside on the porch. Is it better to start in the house & move the box to the outside or just start them outside???

It's so neat that you are clicker training so early in their life. My dogs are all clicker trained and I must tell you it does come in handy sometimes.

As for litterbox training. I would start from the beginning with the litterbox outside. Then you don't have to worry about confusing them again when you move it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to work on it.

I just found out there are Yorkie agility classes not too far away. When they get a little older, I am going to have to try it out. I could see how a target stick would come in handy in agility training.

I meant to do clicker training.....but I kept putting it off.

Now Sully is 1 year old....is that too late?

im actually going to puppy class with Chicle using the clicker method... its really great he comes and looks and sits and stays on command i thought he was untrainable in that sense but hes a pro

i love the clicker method and its so easy to phase out too ... he can follow commands w/o it too

i highly recommend this method of training

Not at all. I started to clicker train my first dog when she was 3 years old.

After my pup was born, I visited everyday until I got her. I practiced the clicker training on the Mom - she's not quite 2 yr old. I taught her to crawl. She would get so excited when I brought out the clicker! I printed up some lessons from http://www.clickerlessons.com/lessons.html for my Mom to work with her pup.

I bought a book for half price on the Internet but I thought the above was way more detailed in how to clickertrain (pictures & everything). You should check it out. You can buy clickers at Petco, Petsmart, etc. I ordered the i-click (softer click) online since mine were pups & the noise wouldn't scare them. They are so scared of everything at first.

when you clicker train, do you click when they do something right or can you click it to let them know they are doing wrong?

You click the second they do what you want. Then you give a treat. After they do want you want a few times you can add a hand signal or verbal command to it. Eventually you phase out the click & treating.

Today I used the touch to have Hannah ring the Poochie Bell to go outside to potty. She did great. Spencer would do touch but to ring the bell he had to stand on his hind legs & he didn't want to do it. Will try again tomorrow.

I want Hannah & Spencer to go in a litter box outside but they won't go in the litter box. But when they do, I'll be clicking.

If you go to the web site on a previous post & the first lesson is touch. It teaches you to clicker train while teaching the dog as well. It's more shaping them into doing what you want. The touch command is the easiest to learn!

I took my Mom's dog to obedience school & when walking, if they pulled, we were to pull back & get them back in line. This training you reward when you have a loose leash. It is different.

We have just started clicker training with Magic...we are starting her in agility and the lady told us to go ahead and get her use to the clicker...so far she is doing great...we have worked with her twice a day for about 5 minutes...she loves it when she see the clicker and we have started learning the touch command!! I am so proud of her and can't wait for her to learn more...

I wanted to clicker train charlie! but my mom's cockapoo is terrified of that clicking noise! HE is actually terrified of an noise, so maybe once i move out i will start with charlie.

You should try the i-click clicker. The ones at the stores the click is really loud. But the i-click has a softer click. Dogs hearing is way better than ours & they don't need a loud click. Perfect for our lil furbabies.
