Default Wizdog success

Has anyone tried the Wizdog?: http://www.wizdog.com/

If so, with what success and if you have been successful, PLEASE elaborate!

We are getting a Yorkie next month and are wanting to use this product with crate training.

Thanks!

I made a post on it a while back http://yorkietalk.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=wizdog

the customer service is great... They replaced my grid free of charge.
in addition , we could never get chester to go inside... I wanted him to be able to do this incase we came home late or for winter time... He just refused to go on paper for puppy pad... but with the wizdog... he learned in one week...
and he was so prod of hisself too. I sware he was smiling.. look what i did look... we gave him big treats and hugs.

Chelsey also uses it... too. she no issues there... She also goes inside and out .
using this with the playpen is very good. for a small dog you only need one... uless you want to put one in each room.
right now we have it downstairs as chelsy seem to think the carpet is grass. So she used it down stars.

I'm sorry to pipe in like this, but do you remember when people would find a dog in the street and housebreak him for free?! what happened? It seems like we pay $800+ for our yorkies, hundreds for grooming, $44.99 to housetrain, $50 for a cage or "playpen", etc. He's a dog! Have a bit of patience, be consistent and the dog will go properly. My dog pees on a wee wee pad in the bathroom and goes outside three times a day to poo. He poos on the sidewalk just like every other dog in the neighborhood, and my only expense as a result of that is plastic bags (which I actually get for free because my expense is on other stuff that comes in the plastic bag). He doesn't have a playpen, he sits on the couch just like the rest of us, and sleeps whereever he feels like it. As for grooming, he goes in the bathtub once a week for a shampoo, condition, rinse, etc. We clean his ears, cut his nails, brush his teeth, and he's fed good, nutritious dog food and yes, we break the rules and give him people food like chops, cheese, potatoes and carrots.

I considered purchasing a Wizdog for my yorkie, but he's just become accustomed to the pee pads we keep in just my bathroom (b/c we have other dogs). He'll even go on one at work if I set one down for him. The main reason I wanted one was b/c Luca Dean always gets pee on his feet and then walks around the house ... but I just try and catch him and wipe his feet with baby wipes when I can. The yearly expense for wipes and wee pads outweighs the $39 I would pay for the wizdog, so I guess I may end up getting one, still haven't decided. Luca Dean is not allowed on the ground around my apartment complex b/c there are so many strays and large dogs owned by college students that aren't well socialized/trained etc. If you have a house with a backyard, I can't see paying the expense, but in some circumstances (like mine) it would be a good purchase. There was a post on Wizdog at some other point a few months ago -- you may want to do a forum search.

You can get wizdog on ebay for $5 cheaper (34.95). It's still the same company that sends it and the shipping ends up being the same... I think we will try this as Annie has stopped using the litter box and sometimes get the wee wee pad on the end and it ends up spilling to the floor

I purchased a Wizdog after reading someone's thread on this forum, but Chloe just refuses to use it. We've tried everything for indoors (cause its just so cold outside here) but she just wont do it. I don't mind, as I'd much prefer her to go outdoors anyway. So if anyone is interested I'm looking to sell my unused Wizdog, I could part with it for like $28 plus shipping. Anyone want it? let me know: goddess0@optonline.net

Goddess537,

Have you tried dabbing some of the pee on the wee wee pad under neath first.
or on the paper. The urine sent must be on the wizdog same as training puppy on wee wee pad in order for the puppy to know were to go.

At first i use that taining aid and all it did was smell up my home, yuk,
but then i tried dabbing some of chelsey pee there and it worked like a charm.
===============================

Oh sorry i did not read your post in full.. your puupy was already trained to go out side. This make it a little harder... you have to have a lot of patiance and not let your puppy go out side at all.. . ( Chester our yorkie was also tained to only go outside... and refused to go inside on paper for 2 years) but i got him trained on the wizdog in one week...

What i did was when he went outside... i took a wee wee pad and dabed it in the pee spot were he went in the back yard. Then I used that same wee wee pad and put it in the Wizdog...

Next placed chester in play pen with his toys and wiz dog and water , food.
Then lots of encuragement ... and words like go potty Chester go potty.

Chester held it in for 10 hours before he went on the wizdog...
You can not let your puppy outside if your trying to brake the cycle.
do not give in to wimpering... or it will never happen...

if your puupy happens to miss the spot on the wizdog... do not discorage... actually praise and give treats for going inside. just say good boy/girl and take an other wee wee pad to dab up the pee. and place it in the wizdog. Then put puppy on the wizdog to smell the pee.

This should help.

Once the puppy has gone inside you have to be consistant by letting them use the wizdog at least for a month before you can let puppy go out side again...

Chester now goes inside and out. I hope that helps.

Just so you are aware. Our puppy chester is extremly stuborn , he is very smart but does what he want when he wants too.. not when asked.

Chelsey our maltese was a lot easyer to train to go on the wizdog as she never went outside before.

I suggest to try this on the weekend .

I have heard that if your puppy is missing the wee wee pad you may need to place two of them or three down so they have more room.

Default Question about male dogs using these products

I've almost got my two 8 month old pups (one male and one female) trained to the litter box, and would like to try something like the wizdog. However, when I tried them with pee pads and a smaller litter box, the male would "overshoot" the pad or box when he lifted his leg. I finally purchased the largest size litter box which is too tall for him to pee over. I would assume that we'd have that same problem with the wizdog, but if anyone has had any other experiences, please let me know. I'm also trying to train a 5 year old yorkie who has always gone outside, to use the litter box inside. Any tips there would be great too!

Hi the Wizdog unlike a litter box is not tall http://www.wizdog.com/. there is noting to climb in to. It is like 1 inch of the floor. If your yorkie is missing the wee, pad most likly he will do the sme with the wizdog. So you may need to purchase two of them and put them side by side just like the wee, wee pad. Before you invest place down two to three wee, wee pads and see if this helps. If it works then you should get two wizdogs.
Regarding training your yokie that currently goes outside please see the tips listed above in this tread.

Default Great Product-but DO NOT buy from eBay

Wizdog is a clever product that really works. I recommend them to everybody and they all have raved about it.

BUT....beware of ebay. Only INDOOR DOG POTTY for: dog house training, housebreaking puppies, dog and puppy training guarantees the product with a 100% moneyback guarantee. PLUS---ebay screws you on the shipping and handling charges.....buy from the original seller!

Default UGODOG is better

The indoor dog potty is a great concept, but UGODOG's execution of that concept is superior to that of Wizdog and costs about the same.
