Default Belly band question

Hello,

I am super excited to pick up my yorkie on Tuesday!

I have been trying to figure out the sleeping arrangements. I would like to have him in my bedroom but in his crate until he is potty-trained. That being said, I have a super soft fleece blanket filling up his crate.

So, how do I keep him from peeing in the crate through the night? I thought about bringing his litter box into the bedroom at night but there would still be all the carpet on my bedroom floor for him to go on. Plus, I'm worried moving his litter box may confuse him.
So, I have ordered some cute wee wraps from Lorene and was wondering if I should put one on him at night. He would be in his crate, but wouldn't be going on the blanket. I don't know if this is healthy, like it is for a baby to wear a diaper all night?

Thanks,
Dina

I wouldn't put a bellyband on at night b/c if he does wet the urine will be up against his skin and that wouldn't be good.

If the crate is small enough he won't potty in it. Dogs don't like to potty where they sleep. However, be prepared to get up at least once during the night to let your baby go potty. As puppies they have small bladders and really can't hold it more than a few hours.

Ok, the crate is 24" in length, 18" in width, and 20" in heighth.

The puppy is 12 wks old and about 3lbs. He is supposed to grow to be 5-7lbs.

It is a wire crate and I filled it with a thick fleece blanket.

Will that work and keep him from peeing in one end?

Slade has an XL crate and I never had any problem with him pottying in it when he was small, however some dogs are different. That should be small enough that he doesn't potty in it, but I have known some dogs that will potty on their blankets since it is absorbant.

Just try a night w/ him in the crate with the blanket and see how that works out.

Hello hon, I am new to puppies and my puppy is new.. but he is 9 weeks old and has not peed in his crate once. I put his bed inside the crate at night for him to sleep in and he has not peed once in it. He sleeps through the night as well. So don't fret until you see a problem. I take him out before I go to bed at 11 and then he is up at 8 for potty time. Good luck!

Ok, I'm feeling much better now. I was ready to go buy a smaller plastic crate that so many people seem to use.
The crate (cage) I have just looks so much comfyer and won't make me feel as guilty.

I do still have a few more questions...

Should I just keep the cage in my bedroom all the time rather than moving it from the family to the bedroom at night? I will be home all summer so as long as I'm there, I will just have him with me all day. When I start taking some small trips out of the house to get him used to it, I was just going gate him off in the kitchen. Should I just put his little pet bed in there rather than the big crate? The kitchen is not big at all because I am in a condo.

So many questions and such anticipation!

I don't use a belly band but I do use a male diaper to keep tino from marking up my house. If you change it properly and keep it clean it wont irritate his skin. Tino wears it at night for sleepies.

If you use a super absorbent pad at night, there is no reason why you can't put the BB on him at night. You can put a little gold bond medicated powder right on the pad and this will help with any irritation.

I make wee wee wraps and my males wear them at night and I have no problems!

my Smokey wears them 24/7.....we use baby powder with cornstarch....also i use pet wipes on him when i change him.........once you use the bellybands though it is pretty hard to let them go during the day without them....they get used to wearing them and they get lazy.....so dont start them if you dont want him to wear them all of the time...

I have a big lab size crate. I put a small bed in one end and pee pads in the other. At night they use that for potty breaks and during the day they use doggie door.

I've had Kobe for almost three weeks, he's 10 weeks old. It surprised me how quickly he got the whole wee wee pad thing. The first couple of days was rough with accidents everywhere. Once you see them walking in circles and sniffng around just tae him to the pad and when he goes praise him like crazy. Everytime Kobe went I gave him a cheerio and threw a party - LOL. He quickly learned that he would get rewarded when he went there. At night he would cry when he had to go. His crate is right next to my bed so it was easy letting him out. At first he would have to go up to three time a night. Now he sleeps through the night with only one occassional cry. Pooping is a different story - we're still working on that! Oh and he has never pee pee'd in his crate - that's where his bed is. They very rarely ever go where they sleep.
