Tongue What tricks does your Yorkie know?

Just wondering what you can do! Any suggestions on training (treats, time between new tricks, etc.)?

We took the trick training class at Pet Smart. Even though I majored in behavioral psychology in college, or maybe because I did, I knew that it's very important to learn the "steps" for each trick. They are continually learning and it important not to reinforce them for the wrong thing, and also to let them know exactly what you want. Joey can fetch, roll over, sit, lie down, shake hands, high five, crawl, beg, dance, spin, play dead, ring the bell, jump through a hula hoop, and he's working on praying.

The first thing you should do is link the word "yessss" with a reward. Say the word "yes" and give a treat, repeat this. Next, you use the word "Yes" every time the dog does a specific behavior that you would like him to repeat. For example, if training to sit, as soon as his bottom hits the floor you say "Yes." Most tricks are taught be leading the "food hand" in a position so that the body falls into place.. In the example, for "sit" you place the food hand above and slightly toward the back of a dog's head. This will lead him to the sitting position, you say Yesss! And give reward. After the dog does the behavior a few times you add the word sit. It's best to work on no more than two-three tricks a day because you don't want the dog to link all the tricks together. Two periods of 5-10 minutes work the best. For example, some dogs will do all their tricks with one command, but never learn what is expected when you say "rollover." Hand signals are the fastest way for a dog to learn and also you can get you dog to do something when far away. For more information this link teaches you some basics: Learning Theory, Teaching New Behaviors, Putting Behaviors on Cue, & Proofing - Dog Forums

I found the hand signals work best as well, and we'd work for like 15-30mins a time on a trick.

Rocky knows how to roll over, and they both know how to give paw. I'm trying to teach them how to walk on their hindlegs.

I took Cooper to puppy class early on and he did great. The commands he knows are sit, come, down, leave it and he walks on a leash. I also taught him high five on my own. I use voice commands, hand signals and treats. We haven't been to class in a couple of months. I wanted to wait until spring, since the classes are outdoors. We have regressed a bit, which is mainly my fault for not working with him as much as I should!

The BEST treats are Zuke's. Both of my dogs go CRAZY for them, especially the blueberry flavor.

Well, I don't know if you'd call it a trick or not but Noel can open the door. Yeah, she's a little smarty. It's the outside / screen door. We could not figure out how she was getting out so one day it happened and I put her back inside and watched. She runs, jumps and hits the door handle with her paw and opens it, then once open she uses her head to keep it open, then goes out. I was staining the deck the other day, and she knew to run around the other side of the house to the fence and stare in and bark until I knew she was there. It was funny for awhile as she don't go off the property, but it's not really funny anymore because now she knows she can do it and does it all the time and she has been springing the other too. She holds the door with her head until Jersey and Lilly go out, then follows.

London can do several tricks at only 3 months old. She can sit, shake, lay, roll over, stand up, come, and stay. She's really smart LOL. We practice for about 20-30 mins ever other day.

Layla doesn't do "tricks" but she does know a lot of commands

sit, stay, wait, up, off, down (lay down), come, outside, leave it, take it, right here (when she drops her ball out of reach, right here means bring it closer) she knows "eat" means food is coming, crate, shower (means go in her crate because i'mg oing to have a shower) nap (means go in her crate we are going to nap ) kisses, easy (means take the treat gently out of my hands!) when my mom says, Layla do you want to go do the work, she knows that means they are going to go do laundry downstairs

Mine know basic commands...sit, down, come, stay. Ramsey does know...speak...which at the time I thought...oh she talks...let's have her do it on command. Well ain't no commanding needed here...she tells me everything all the time.

Mine do know let's go....means get in their crates...time to go to work. Reggie gets so excited...he hops around all the crates and sometimes gets in one that already contains a passenger. Ramsey commands him outta there too.

well they're not really tricks but as well as sit, down, stand, wait, stay, and spin; my two jump hurdles, do the six foot A frame, dog walk, teeter, tunnel, chute and twelve pole weave! We're working on our front and rear crosses. Where I change which side of the dog I'm on without standing on them and they race to the next obstacle

Dougal shakes paw and walks on his hind legs, Dixie waves and pirouettes. As well as touching a pad or stick. I also taught dougal to hold a stick in his mouth for a photo comp- which we won.

all my dogs understand vietnamese and english commands ...

sit, lay down, roll over, paw or shake

Kandie special trick is beg or pray

MeiLing, Kioko & Yoshi gives high five on command

And MeiLing also does bang! bang! she is a pleaser with such an attitude...hehe

and it didn't take long to teach any of them the tricks...hehe

And they all know ... go in your room (in viet), go in the house (in viet), get on your bed (in viet), drink your water (in viet), eat your food (in viet) and go potty in viet and english...

WOW! that's so cool that she knows all those commands. how old is layla? Kash will be 6 months old on June 8, but so far only knows sit & lay down really well. he's getting the hang of come here, and i'm in the process of teaching him to stay. i don't have tons of time to teach him tricks/commands, but i hope he learns to do all the things your girl can do! congrats and kudos!
