I have a female yorkie she is 12 weeks old and her name is Ava! We love her but i dont know how much longer i can handel the potty training. We got her when she was 7 weeks old. We are using the crate method and take her out every 2 to 3 hours even throught then night. She will pee and poop......

We take her out ofter play, eating drinking you name it. Please help!!!!!!

Hi! I know your frustrated, but 12 weeks is awfully young to expect your baby to be housetrained. Yorkie's seem to be more of a challenge to housebreak for some reason. Time to put your patience hat on. Keep working with her. If it makes you feel any better you are not alone. I think people think Yorkie's will be as easy to train as larger dogs and unfortunately thats just not the case. Good Luck, hang in there!!

Hang in there!!! I'm potty training too & let me tell you it's getting really annoying & we've only had him for three weeks! I know that it's frustrating & hard sometimes, but stick with it & you will have a furbby that is fully potty trained

you really can't expect much at first cause their bladders are so tiny -

I don't understand how a tiny puppy can frustrate anyone when it is not their fault. Maybe do some reading on yorkies and training so you know what to expect and can be a little less stressed - the more you stress - the more your puppy will feel it... and then you may end up with NO training at all.

Think of it like this - it can take a human kid up to THREE YEARS to learn how to use the bathroom - how can you expect a puppy to learn in just a few weeks or days ?

It just takes time and some are easier than others but 12 weeks is too young to expect no accidents. Hang in there it is so worht it.

Good advice has been posted here. Lots and lots of weeks and months of patience is needed. It will be well worth it if you stick to your consistent scheduled.
I would just add that housebreaking outdoors with a harness and a retractable leash did the trick for us.
We were always there to supervise and watch what our pup did or did not do! I also recommend foul weather gear for you and your pup!

Do hang in there as everyone recommends. The love and joy you will get in return from your Yorkie pup will we well worth the hard work.

My girl is four years old and she is paper trained. I had cats before her,so I am used to the scooping and the smell. She does go outside but she has the choice. OK she is spoiled lol. I never had kids and she is my baby. I just flush her poop. I use my news paper. It works for us.

wow, you got her when she was 7 weeks? That's terribly young for a small breed. I know how frustrating it can be, just be patient and consistent. She'll get the hang of it.

My baby is 15 mths old now and is just now getting the concept....we still have a potty accident every two weeks or so....it just takes time, so just be patient and give them all the love you have to give...

Miss Daisy, who is 3 yrs old now, became fully potty trained at about 5 months old. We got one of those trays that you put under your clothes
washer and we line it with puppy pads. She took to it right away, and in
fact hardly goes potty outside. It's also very easy to clean..maybe you
should try that? You can get the trays at any hardware store.

Missdaisy - what kind of tray for the washer is this? what section would you find this in? We have only had our lil Oso for one week, and the crate training and potty training is going pretty good, but there is alway room for improvement. All the advise on this site is awesome!

It's a plastic tray, about 2 1/2 ft square, about 3 inches +/- tall, and you get them I think in the appliance department..they are made to put under your washing machine in case of overflow/leaking.

It was my hubby's (really great) idea, and our kids took to it right away. Plus,
since it is a tray, it makes cleanup super easy. Just remove the soiled potty pads, wipe down, new pads, voila!!

Potty training is very frustrating, my baby, Hatton, is 4 and a half months old and is just now getting the hang of it. I live in a tiny studio apartment while I'm in school so I can keep an eye on him where ever he is, but for a while he would find somewhere to hide to go to the bathroom, just like a little kid that goes and sits in the corner to go in their diaper.
He really only has problems when I take him to my mom's house, it's so big he can go into a room and go when no one is watching him. The best thing that I've found is to her restrictions (only allowing her in rooms that you are in) so she can't go into another room and go potty.
Maybe if you have a long training leash to keep her close to you so if she starts to go into 'potty position' you can give her a gentle tug, and tell her firmly 'No! Potty outside.' and take her straight out and praise the heck out of her when she goes. It just takes getting into a rhythm for both of you, and just because she may not have an accident for a few weeks don't assume she is housebroke, she just has you trained to take her out when she needs to go. It will get better as her bladder grows! I have only ever had Labs, and they are a breeze to train... I wasn't expecting this to be so hard!

Onni is 11 weeks old and has been using her pee pads since we got her. You may want to try the pee pads. Puppies take a while to train, so I agree with the other folks, that patience may be your best friend in this situation.

Your pup is very young, and normally they don't leave the breeder until 12-16 weeks. There is excellent information on the internet about potty training. Usually, you begin with paper training, then outside after introduction to crate training also.

You will need to confine her to a small area and much too young to have freedom or expect her to potty outside.
