puppy pads, ohhh my!

i decided to pick up puppy pads for Suzi and train her using this method .SHe did very well and started peeing on them quickly! Yea Suzi! HOWEVER, she will not poop on them.... I even tried moving the pads where she likes to poop, and she just pooped further down the hallway! it did not work. ANybody have ideas why she goes pee on them and not BM? ANy suggestions?
It is like she is deleberatly advoiding the pads.

Haha. I don't know why they are like that! Epsilon was the same way! I would just tell him no when he pooped somewhere else and then take his poop to the pad, show it to him, and praise him. Then I lef tthe poop there so it was a constant reminder that he should poop there. It probably took about 2 weeks before he was consistently pooping on the pads. I have since then weened him off the pads for the pee and he only pees outside. But he still usually poops inside on the pad. Sometimes he poops outside.. he's about 50/50.

Sometimes that happens, don't know why. Maybe you should have a pee pad and a poop pad. I have heard that some don't like to do it on the same pad. Weird, huh?

What I would do, though is just watch her like a hawk and continually put her on the pad when she starts to squat. She will eventually get the hang of it. Keep reinforcing the training for both pee and poo. She will come around. Just be consistent.

We had to put the poop on the pad for a few times too. Then when the first time "happened", we had the hugest party! Both our babies come and "tell us" when they pottied on the paper so they get their treats (works well so we can clean up immediately too). Our our indoor/outdoor trained.

thanks for your replies! I have actually placed the poop on her pad too, but, she did not care. I believe it will take time and consistency. I see now how clever these little Yorkies are. They definatley have minds of their own: rolleyes:.

So does Epsilon!! It's soooo cute! But... he doesn't get treats lol. I'm very stingy when it comes to giving treats He's only 3 lbs so I worry about giving him too many. I just give him lots of love and praise

LOL - Well don't let Epsilon email Coby and Reggie or they'll tell him to start holding out for treats!!

But I know what you mean about the treats. We spend a ton of time it seems cutting treats up into tiny little pieces - each about the size of a Cheerio (or we use Cheerios too!). But that way, one package lasts forever and they don't get more than a taste.

OK, Now Suzi has learned a new "trick" EVERY time I clean up after her she grabs the wipe and runs off ! NOW I have to hold on and really watch myself.
She is so clever . I use these doggie wipes to clean up, and she thinks I am playing. LOL
