Default PetCo/Petsmart puppy classes

Hi!
I was wondering if any of you have enrolled your yorkies in one of these classes and if so, were they a success? If not, then are there other places that offer these types of classes for good citizenship and etc
Thanks!

We enrolled Joey in the puppy class, but after one week we found that he was just too smart, so the trainer suggested we enroll him in tricks training class. None of the other dogs were yorkies and all of the other dogs in the class were much older and bigger, and even though many of them knew some tricks already, (Joey only knew how to give kisses) Joey was the first to learn all the tricks in the class and even had a little routine to present at graduation. I think it is well worth the investment.

BTW, this was Petsmart, and it just depends on the experience of the actual trainer, try to get enrolled in a class where the trainer has experience.

There is a lady here at work (she is also a new member of YT) that joined the puppy classes...she doesn't care much for them. But as the other poster said it might be better with a better teacher.

I'm on my 5th week of training at Petsmart. I was a little leary at first. The trainer is pretty strict, but I have definitely seen lots of improvement from my little Max and the other dogs. The trainer you get probably makes a difference and like anything else, you have to practice with your dog at home. I would recommend it.

im a dog trainer at petco in oklahoma...and like everyone has said practice practice practice....so many people come to class and say "yeah we practiced" but i can take one look at the dog and sigh and say...ok "whatever" and back to square one...and 15 minutes a day is awsome...not much time on your part but its also quality time with you and your pet...just be consistent!!!! and you will get results. i am a little biased but...i think im a damn good trainer! LOL but seriously though it does depend on the trainer to some degree. i have had people transfer to my class and only one transferred out. and that was becuase she insisted i teach her how to use a shock collar without trying other methods first...(she was too lazy to try any other method) i asked her to leave. but anyway good luck with everything and go meet the trainer! it is sooooooo important and see if you like what they do. also i always bring my boys with me when i meet the pet parents so they can see my results on my own dogs. its worth a try!!!! good luck. let me know if you sign up!

that too really depends...my vet has like twice a year has low income spay neuter clinic...and luckily i quilfy...so my jack russell got nuetered for 45 dollars. and max i dont know ill probably have to pay the normal price for which is about 100 dollars. but if i go to a vet that is closer to me..its like 400 dollars. so lol it really depends...call vets and get estimates. thats what i did...im kinda leary about the special clinics that only do nueter and spay for a discount price...but you can try them out. but good luck!!!

It really depends on where you live. Here in Hawaii if you get a spay/neuter certificate from the city government, it costs 75$ to spay a female&50$ to nuetuer a male. If you don't do that though, it costs around 300$! I would call your local SPCA or Humane Society&see how much they charge. Usually they don't charge a lot of money ... at least, from what I have experienced in the past they haven't.
