We just got our little boy a week ago. We are dual training him (outside and in). We figured because yorkies have such small bladders, we wanted him to have a quick spot to go inside just in case he has to. This way his confidence stays up as well as ours.

It seems to be working well and he understand that he has two places to go.

I want to train my new male yorkie to use a litter box with the new "pooch pad" as I live in an apartment and won't always be able to take him outside. Has anyone used the pooch pad, or litter box for a little one? If so, please break it down and make it simple for me and him for when he comes to his new "home". Thanks everyone.

We are indoor/outdoor trained. For two reasons - if we have to be gone for extended times, we can leave Coby in an ex-pen with a potty pad. (Reggie has the run of the house.) And also, the weather here isn't always great. I'm betting Hawaii has a little bit better weather.

We use washable potty pads inside.

I would prefer to take mine outside but because of the area we live in and in the winter we get a few feet of snow which would make it impossible for my yorkies to go potty outside I have to use the pee pads so that I don't confuse the heck out of them by switching them back and forth from season to season!

I started off with the pads and got tired of cleaning up, he would sometimes go on the pad and most times off. Now we go outside and he is about 90% trained right now. I think it's just easier and less cleanup for you. I'm also a stay at home mom, so if we have the time its less mess to clean up. Just be consistent with taking him out.

Can someone explain this litter box training to me? I live in an apartment and I work, I read about these new things called pooch pads that are washable like 300 times. I want to buy litter boxes and put pooch pads in them for the puppy to use. Mind you, there would be more than one litter box in the house so he doesn't have to go far to go potty, I will also be taking him outside in the evenings and on the weekends, weather permitting. Will this work, will he use these litter boxes?

Also at night when I go to sleep, do I put him in a small crate, just large enough to lay down, stand up and turn around? Or a larger area that would contain food/water, blanket and a litter box in case he has to go during the night. How long can they hold it? If it's overnight 8 hours or so, can a small yorkie be in a small crate for that long without having to go?

Also, when do they stop chewing on computer wires and television wires? When can you leave them unattended at home with free run?
