Question about potty/crate traing- newbie here! :)

Try putting him back into his crate after coming back inside. Wait for him to potty again, and then praise him. Also, he has too much room to roam in your house. Try fencing off a smaller space for him. Otherwise he will always associate those other rooms with a place to potty.

He is very young. You need to limit his options, be consistent, and be patient. After he has pottyed inside on his pad, if you want him to run a little, put a belly band on him and let him have some time outside the pen. Then back in the pen. Too much freedom just complicates the training process.

We just had a meeting with our trainer. We are putting Pepper (yes! We finally named her) in private lessons. He also said what Katelin said about limiting their space. Our puppy is only allowed in the basement right now- in our main family room. We take her out of her pen only when we are going to be right there with her playing. Otherwise she is in her pen which has a potty pad and her crate. Also we only keep her out for short periods of time (unless she is on my lap sleeping). Our trainer said that often puppies have to go potty after they've been running around, so while your puppy may have just emptied his bladder, being outside my have stimulated him to go again.

I am so not an expert by any means though- I'm just following the advice of our trainer. We are doing leash training/correction with our puppy, which limits the dog to being within leash range at all times.

OK! Let me get this straight.....He has a pen which has his bed and wee pads....should I take the bed out and put his travel crate & wee paid in there for him to sleep in and potty and keep him in there most of the day and night?. This makes me sad but I've got to do it.....he's really going where ever he wants......I noticed that when he has to go he starts walking in circles sniffing the floor, so i pick him up and take him in the back yard to go potty
