Default Cintronella collar?

I'm trying to move into an apartment but the landlord is asking that if neighbors complain about Duke's barking that I should have him wear a Cintronella collar.
Duke isn't much of a barker, only if he's startled, as all dogs do.
So if you have used this or know of risks, I'll appreciate it.
Thanks

I have an invisible fence indoors, and outdoors and Kramer wears a collar, you would be surprised at how quick they learn, after realizing his perimeters, he has not been shocked in over 3 mos. and i only have it about 4 mos. They do learn quick, he will eventually probably not even need it, he will just know not to bark.

One thing i forgot to mention, before you even consider the collar, try either filling a plastic bottle with coins or rocks, or my favorite a plastic toy bat. When Kramer starts barking at birds early in the morning while the rest of the house is still sleeping i go up to him and hit the bat on the floor and tell him no, he stops immediately, sometimes he stops when he sees me going for that bat, try it.

I actually have one...i bought it for my beagle....i was not impressed with it. He would bark anyway. The upside of it was that it put a nice lemony scent in the house, but in my opinion it wasnt worth the money. They are not cheap.

Thank you for all your replies, I'll see how Duke get at the new place first before I need to consider it.

I bought the citronella collars for both of my girls and even though they were the smallest size they were still to bulky for them, I sent them back. I just today received a bark control device that has worked very quickly. I got it from Dr's foster and smith PetSafe Stationary Bark Control Device PBC-1000 Kennel Vet

One price and its useful for all the dogs which I like, and if you want to manually trigger it you can as well.

I read where you just got this and it works? How much of barkers are your dogs? I would like to find something to at least tone them down a bit. I have 4 Yorkies and 3 puppies, but only 2 are real barkers. Does this really work good?

They are big time barkers, It is still working well but we have had to tweak things a bit. One of the prime times they bark is when we are letting our labs in and out the back door, which is many many times a day. I don't want the labs to hate going outside so I have it next to the door and we wait until they are out, or right before they come in so they don't end up not wanting to use the door. I noticed that when it is close enough to them it didn't always go off when they would bark (only one of them is barking now tho) and she isn't barking anywhere near like she was. So, IMO this is a But, I may be looking for one that is a tad bit more sensitive IF it ceases to work.
