Default The side of the pee pad!

Coco is 2 and I can't believe I am still having this problem. She insists on peeing right on the very edge of her potty pad which of course spreads throughout the bathroom and gathers under the pad...YUCK! Its so frustrating because shes peeing in the right place just to the side of it. I tried a pee pad holder when she was little but she didn't want to use it. I have tried putting two big pads down...she still pees right on the edge. I think she is doing it on purpose!...Just so she has to watch me clean up her mess when I get home. haha! She only uses the pee pads when we are not home or if she has to go in the middle of the night. Maybe she just has bad aim or is lazy and the second she gets to the pad thinks she has made it.

Any suggestions?? I can't keep scrubbing the tile with dog unrine cleaning spray!

Pet stores have potty trays that come up around the sides so nothing will get on the floor. I use a flat tray with Sass and under that I have a clear piece of shower curtain liner that comes out about about 4 inches from her tray so that if she misses it gets on the plastic shower curtain and not the floor.

You might be able to put down a piece of a shower liner under her pee-pad and see how that works.

Good Luck!

Thats a great idea with the shower curtain. I would have never thought of that. Thanks!

That is a common problem. Some of us have had good success with the washable pee pads. They are more absorbent than the paper so if it is near the edge it usually is absorbed back up into the pad rather than off of it. Another idea is to put a washable pee pad (which is bigger than the disposables) under your disposable pad and it will absorb any run off.

The shower curtain liner is good, but because it is not absorbent when you try to move it to clean it the pee will run off of it onto the floor. I recommend something absorbent and waterproof.

i so have a washable potty pad and she does do better with that one. Maybe I will just get a few more of those instead of trying to use the plastic ones. Of course, after she has peed on her pad once she wants a whole new one. She is soo spoiled! ha

I had the same problem but I put a training pee pad on top of the washable pads. Because she was trained to the pee pads first, and it is smaller than the washable, she hits it almost everytime. Less laundry and have cut the cost of training pads.

I use Little Bit's washable pee pads under the disposable and it works great. Once Roxie is trained completely I will try using just the washable pads.

I had the same problem. Gracie would completely miss the edge, and still does. I put down a shower curtain liner. That protected the floor but somehow Gracie got the message that her "area" for peeing has expanded to anywhere the shower curtain liner is. It is nearly impossible getting her to go on just a pee pad, even if it is a king size washable one. I would NOT recommend a shower curtain liner for this reason. I'm finding the best thing is the very large washable pee pad (made by Little Bit) with a disposable one on top of it. I really need to transition these girls to peeing outside.

We had the same problem here, so I got a doggy litter box and put the pee pads in the litter box rather than using litter. I think they just can't judge the pad.

I had the same problem with my 10 month old Yorkie. I resorted to buying a "puppy Potty". It uses newspaper so it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly as well. I no longer have the problem of her peeing on the side of the pad. To initally train her I put the pad on the "puppy potty" and slowly made it smallerday by day. Now she is very well-trained to go on her new potty:-)

Simba just turned 5 months old, and he is having the same problem. In the beginning, his aim was perfect! Just in the last couple of weeks, he started
peeing right on the edge! What I did was doubled up on the pee pad, putting it side by side. For some reason, this has worked for me. He now pees in the middle of the pad again. Good luck!

Mariah is 5 months old and we have the same problem.

My husband bought a "Washer Tray" also called a "Washer Pan" that usually is used to fit under a washing machine and prevents floor damage (protects floor from scuffs, spills and overflows including laundry detergents and bleach). We paid $12 at Menards for one similar to the pictured tray below. Our is smooth - no design, etc.

We put this in her pen and put her pee-pad on top. It's very shallow and big enough that she has no problem going on it. It's been a life-saver or rather a floor-saver! We clean up her pee-pads and can mop it down so easily and I feel so much better that this mess is not touching my floor anymore....it's completely protected. We also put one under my cat's litter box.

I'll try to get some pictures of it being used!

You got a good deal! I looked for these at one time to stop the pooping just off the edge of the pad and at Home Depot they were $20!! They only had the kind like in your picture with the raised design in the middle, so I didn't get one.
