Omg I am at my witts end

Hey anyone out there? I need help!!! We have had Louie for about a year and a half now. He still isn't potty trained. I have used the wee wee pads and the belly band, but nothing seems to work. I have tried to crate train him but all he does is bark and howl non-stop. If he is out he has to lift his leg on everything. I just don't know what do anymore. We have moved into a new house, so there wasn't any previous owner everything was new and he still has to mark things. He is going to be fixed this summer, will that help at all? And I am open to any suggestions at this point. I have heard that some yorkies are never potty trained, but they are so very smart. I can even take him on a long walk and he will do all his business, but I swear he saves some for when we get home. About an hour or so later he has gone again. Not every day some days are good. I love him so much but I can't let him ruin our new home.

I am definitely not a pro at this but If I were you I would try to crate him again. I would just act as if he was a puppy all over again. Crate him when you can't have all eyes on him and if he whines let him and he will eventually stop (well my brooklyn did anyway). If you can put him on a schedule to go outside and potty. I have put Brooklyn on a leash and literally tied her to me during the day while I was doing dishes or whatever. That way I knew when she had to go outside plus she never would potty in the house in front of me she would always want to go hide because she knew she wasn't suppose to be pottying in the house. I hope this helps somewhat! GL!

The belly bands should at least keep him from marking in the house.

Getting him fixed will at least help a little. I would do that as soon as possible!

Thanks everyone,
I have tried the belly bands but he still goes in them. He is on a schedule and is walked alot. I have had to keep him in a play yard since we have moved. I don't think he likes it very much. I will try all of your suggestions and hope something works. thanks for the support. I guess I will start from the beginning with him like he was a puppy, maybe he just needs to re-learn since we are in a new place. Also since we have moved here, he doesn't seem to like any other dogs. Everytime we are out and he sees one he goes crazy and acts like he has rabbies!LOL!! He was never like this before he was very social and thought he was a big dog. I could take him to the park and he would have great manners and play with everyone, big or small now he just wants to tear everyone(dogs) apart.

I don't know how long you have been in your new house. But, it sounds like you are dealing with 2 different issues.

One is the marking which is normal for a male dog to do. I would look into getting him neutered asap. Hopefully it will help. For know I would just gate him off in an area where it won't hurt anything if he is marking or having accidents.

The other issue is the move itself. He needs time to adjust. You will need to be very consistant with him. You will have to go back to the begining with the potty training, until he learns how go potty at the new house. Can you gate him off in a small area...like the kitchen until he is doing better.

It also sounds like he is being territorial when he is out walking. He is letting everyone know...this is my space now. You need to show him that it is your space! What do you do when he barks at other dogs?

How did you introduce him to his new home? Did you give him free run all at once? How did you have things for him in the old house?

I agree. Belly bands aren't a potty training device. They just keep your home from being soiled. Keep using them to keep your frustration level down as you work on this problem.

Give him a smaller area to be in - gated or crated. This usually helps. Then keep him on a schedule all day. What does he do at night? Does he hold it?

thanks we have been in the new house since last August. I have kept him gated in the kitchen until he marked the walls , new appliances etc. So now he is in a gated area with a baby gated play pen. My other dog is also with him. They both have all of the same stuff that they had at the other house. He is kept on a routine. He is such a sweet boy.(otherwise) When we are out walking and begins his barking i tighten his leash and tell him no and we stop for a minute. but he goes wild. I know that it has been a big adjustment for him,but I have tried to keep things the same. When we are all home in the evening I do allow him to come out and sit with us. He does a pretty good job of listening then. I will try all of your suggestions something has to work.

Thank you everyone you have given me some great advice!!!
Annette
