Default Do you use clicker training?

Just wondering how many of you use clicker training and how successful have you found it?

Morning!

Funny you should this! I bought a clicker about 2 weeks ago..I am not using to make them do things I am using it to make the STOP doing things...Like terrorizing their big Maine Coon brother, barking when I leave, barking in the car, or biting at my feet when I try to leave. I was working better when I first started using it. But, I think they are getting used to the noise now and ignore it. Good Luck! I hope it works for you...Let us know

Hi~

I use the clicker training with my Chihuahua. She is highly motivated by food; so training with the clicker is a breeze. I have found consistency to be the real indicator of success.

HAGD!

I have trained mine to come to me when I use the clicker. I use it when we are outside, because they seem to turn a deaf hear when I call them. They know they are going to get a treat when they hear the clicker, so they come immediately!!

I started Morgan's training using a clicker. She caught on very quickly. She did something right, she heard the click, and then got a treat. I used this for a few weeks and then progressed away from it. She'll still come running though when she hears it because she thinks she's going to get a treat.

I used the clicker with my boxer - he did great with it. I haven't tried it with the yorkie.
I think the clickers are at the check out counter at petsmart. You can also order them online

Yes yes yes! it's great for building the foundations of tricks and things. I can do brilliant "shaping" with Dougal but Dixie works best if you can "capture" the behaviour you want with the click. It's funny how differently they work.

I tried the clicker with Toto but he is so timid that the clicking noise scares the beejeebees out of him. Any sudden noise scares him.

Question:

I got my Yorkie 3 weeks ago and she is now 11 weeks old. Is it too late to incorporate the clicker in her training?

Absolutely not! You can incorporate clicker training at any point in their life. Just follow the instructions on how to get started and go from there.

I just bought a clicker and the book "Click & Easy" at Petco. Taz is starting to respond to it well. The book is very informative and it teaches basic obedience as well as tricks. I will keep everyone posted on his progress. He is 10 months old by the way and only had a few basic commands down when I got him 2 wks ago. (Sit occasionally and let's go Bye Bye down pat).
