Default Please help get Lolo on a leash!!!

Lolo is 8 months old and 2.5 pounds and I paid a ton to have a trainer come out the other day to help me get her on a lead. She performed wonderfully when the lady was here (so proud ) but now when i put the harness on her and the lead she won't move. And I mean - WILL NOT MOVE. I have tried treats, toys, the park, other dogs - anything to lure her to move. Plus, she starts shaking, which makes me upset. Can someone help? I live in London and the laws say I have to have her on a 'lead' (English jargon for a leash) to take her outside. Any suggestions?!?!

Boy that is hard, obvious the dog can walk on a lead. Trainer showed you that. But sometimes these little ones like to think they are the boss over us and want to train us. That is what it sounds like. You might just have to keep working with her and retrain her that you are the boss. Keep trying and she will get it. Maybe someone else will have an another ideal.

Practice the lead in the house. Maybe the outside environment is what has her scared. Keep her on the lead in the house so she is comfy and will get used to it.

What if you put the lead on her and let it go in the house... let her walk with it by herself for a little to get used to it. If you put the lead on and walk away I'm sure she wont sit there ALL DAY. she will have to move at some point. maybe don't make it a big deal like oh well there ya go and you can move when your ready! they sense thing and if your upset about it maybe she is up set. try to have a I don't care attitude and see if it helps...I guess I would try that.

ALL DAY??? The trainer said they only learn what is going on at that moment. She told me to put the leash on, give her a treat, and take it off. But she won't even take the treat!!! Such a princess!!! I guess I could try that - I am just very confused (obviously!)

Pookie hated the whole halter and lead thing at first, but we just kept putting it on her (we could not even catch her with a lead on in the house because she is too quick and would often disappear under the couch), and now when we get it out, she comes over and stands still in front of us as if to say "I need my halter and leash, so put it on me!" As soon as we get it on, she prances off like she feels more secure with it. I think what did it for her was taking her on walks with it first. She loves going for walks.

Cesar Milan had a little dog on one of his shows that would not walk on a leash with the owner. It would sit down and she would have to either pick it up or drag it. So he found out from the owner that the dog liked another dog down the street. He set up with the other owner to bring this little dog over for some "play dates". As soon as the little dog figured out that it was going to have play dates if the owner took it on the leash, he was suddenly totally cooperative. All you have to do is figure out what motivates your dog and then put it on a leash and give it the "reward" whatever that may be. Be consistent and repeat it several times a day until your dog gets the idea that a leash is a good thing to have on. Don't make the reward taking the leash off. If you only reward the nervous behavior with taking the leash off, your dog will consider taking the leash off the actual reward and you'll get nowhere.
